b) Putting-into-operation
At the bottom side of the head you can find a sliding switch. Set this switch to posi-
tion "OFF" / "0". The solar lamp is switched off and the accumulators will be charged
(according to the description) during the day / during several days by means of the
solar cell.
When the charging procedure is complete, set the switch to position "ON" / "I". The
solar lamp is now automatically switched on at darkness and shines until it is getting
light in the morning (at least approx. 8 hours, provided that the accumulators are
completely charged and are not defective). During the day the accumulators are
recharged. This procedure recurs until the sliding switch is set to "OFF" / "0" or until
the accumulators are discharged after not enough sunny days.
For this reason, please observe the following information: if the following days are
not sunny enough, the energy that is used during the night is not supplied to the
accumulators during the day. Consequently, the capacity of the accumulators gets
lower each day, if you switch on the solar lamp at darkness. Thus, the shining time is
inevitably reduces until, one day, the accumulator has not enough charging energy.
The accumulators may be totally discharged. For this reason, switch off the stainless
steel solar lamp in time in order to make sure that the accumulators can be comple-
tely charged.
Disposal
Dispose of the defective stainless steel solar lamp according to the relevant statutory
requirements.

Correcting malfunctions

Always observe the safety instructions when you are correcting malfunctions.
Problem
possible cause
The Solar lamp
Are the accumulators completely charged (36 sunny
does not function
hours)?
Is the place too shady (trees, roofs, etc.)?
Are the surroundings dark enough at night? Are
there street or house lighting lanterns in the imme-
diate vicinity?
Maybe the LEDs are defective (rare) or the accu-
mulators are discharged (relative often).
Too short shining
Are the accumulators enough charged during the
time at darkness
day?
Maybe the accumulators are defective?

Maintenance, replacement of the
accumulator
a) Maintenance
Apart from occasional cleaning work of the housing and the solar cell (proceed with
care) and the replacement of defective or totally discharged accumulators, the stain-
less steel solar lamp is maintenance-free. Use a soft, damp, lint-free cleaning cloth
and mild cleaning agents to clean the product. An eraser or a glass fiber eraser, for
example, is suited to clean the contact surfaces of the accumulator contacts.
Warning!
Do not use cleaning agents that contain carbon or benzines, alco-
hol or anything similar to clean the product since these sub-
stances damage the surface of the housing. Moreover, these
fumes are hazardous to the health and explosive. Do not use tools
with sharp edges, screwdrivers, metal brushes or anything similar
to clean the device.
b) Replacement of the accumulator
The so-called NiMH accumulators of the stainless steel solar lamp serve as energy
storage. If the lighting is insufficient for several days or if the capacity is reduced for
ageing reasons or if the accumulators are suddenly defective, the accumulators
must be replaced. Proceed as follows:
• Remove the two cap nuts (LDR side and opposite side / visible through the threa-
ded bolts under the mushroom) with a fork (size 7) or a ring spanner (do not use
pliers or tweezers).
• Remove the complete upper part (mushroom).
• Open the four housing fastening screws with a suitable (fine) screwdriver for reces-
sed-head screws and take the two halves carefully apart. The battery chamber is
uncovered.
• Remove the accumulators that have become useless and replace both (never
replace just one) NiMH accumulators by two new NiMH accumulators of the same
type. (1,2 volt / 1300 mAh).
• Please observe the correct polarity of the accumulators when inserting them (plus
"+" and minus "-"!).
• Now close the battery chamber putting carefully on the upper part (mushroom).
• Make sure that the connections are not pinched when assembling the two halves.
• The cap nuts must be hand-screwed
