Balanced Reference Phonostage
1. Placement of the
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
The "
should be placed close to the turntable nearest to the signal
Balanced
source, in order to use as short as possible phono cables between the tonearm and the
Reference Phonostage
Balanced Reference Phono-
. The best connection between the cartridge and the
stage
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
will be realised with a direct wired tonearm. The "
should be
placed as far away as possible from motors, transformers, power amplifiers outside of hum inducing
magnetic fields.
2. Applying Power:
The external power supply contains two separated power supplies with four voltages for each channel.
Before applying power, check the voltage indication on the external power supply to be sure, that it is
correct for your local AC power in your country. Connect the both 9-pin D-Sub-connectors to the
Balanced Reference Phonostage
and lock it with the screws, then connect the AC power cord and turn
on the AC power-switches on the power-supplies. The 3 LED´s in each channel of the Balanced
Reference Phonostage will glow blue when it is on. After 2-3 seconds the "Mute LED" turns off
and the signal outputs are working.
Note:
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
Never disconnect the D-Sub connector from the "
if the
power supply is still on. Before you disconnect the D-Sub connector from the power supply or from the
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
"
for any reason, first make sure, that the AC Power switch is in
the position OFF! Then wait until all 3 blue LED´s at each channel has stopped glowing, only then you
can disconnect the D-SUB-connectors.
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
For the optimal sound results we recommend to run the "
continuously on power to minimize thermal cycling of the components.

3. Input and Output Connections

The quality of the interconnect cables is extremely important in realizing the full sonic potential of the
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
clearaudio "
. The interconnect needs to be symmetrical designed,
no coaxial!
Inputs and outputs for left and right channels are marked accordingly on the rear panel. One special
input 5-pin connector ("Binder"- Connector) can be used for direct wiring from the cartridge to the
Balanced Reference Phonostage.
If you are using the unbalanced RCA-Inputs, the "Input Select Switch" must be in position
"Unbalanced", for using the XLR or 5-pin-Binder connector the switch must be set to "Balanced"
To achieve the best sound performance you also can connect the Balanced Reference Phono Stage
directly with your power amplifier. With the automatic mute function, you hear no noise in your
Balanced Reference Phonostage"
loudspeakers, if you turn on or off your "
, while your power
amplifier is still working.
4. Minimize of Hum
Note:
You should minimize the hum first, before you listen to any LP record!
Also we recommend to use phono cables with symmetrical design like Clearaudio "Quint" or the
"Sixstream".
To minimize hum or other undesirable static noise, you should use if possible the balanced inputs and
outputs.
Also always take care for the proper "Ground" connection to your turntable.
If you are using a clearaudio MC cartridge please connect always the delivered 5-pin
Binder-connector!
