Bell AH-1 Cobra
Die Bell AH-1 Cobra ist Amerikas legendärer Kampfhubschrauber. Für die
Flying Bulls fliegt sie natürlich „nur" Einsätze auf Airshows.
Sie war lange Jahre der klassische Kampfhubschrauber der US Army: Seit
1966 in zahlreichen Versionen hergestellt, erwarb sich die Bell AH-1 Cobra
bereits im Vietnamkrieg einen legendären Ruf. Mit der Auslieferung der
ersten Apaches trennte sich die Army schrittweise von der Cobra, nur die
Marines setzen noch voll auf diesen Typ. Die Maschine der Flying Bulls ist
eine AH-1F, die in den achziger Jahren gebaut und am Ende ihrer Dienstzeit
vollständig abgewrackt und demilitarisiert wurde. Das sogar in der Mitte
durchgeschnittene Überbleibsel wurde später vom amerikanischen
Hubschrauberpiloten und -Sammler Chuck Aaron entdeckt und bis zum
Jahr 2002 vollständig wiederaufgebaut.
In der Folge beeindruckte das Exemplar nicht nur auf zahlreichen Airshows,
sondern spielte auch in TV-Serien wie „JAG – im Auftrag der Ehre" oder
„Walker, Texas Ranger" mit. Natürlich immer mit Chuck Aaron am Steuer.
2004 entdeckte Sigi „Blacky" Schwarz das Juwel für die Flying Bulls und
konnten es nach langwierigen Export-Formalitäten – das Pentagon hält
seine Hand schützend auch auf ehemaliges Militärgerät – endlich nach
Salzburg überführen, wo es im Dezember 2005 in allen Ehren empfangen
wurde.
Die Bell AH-1F der Flying Bulls besteht zum Großteil aus fabriksneuen
Original-Teilen. Die Version F war die letzte Cobra, die mit nur einer Turbine
gebaut wurde – und dieses Exemplar ist auch das letzte flugfähige dieser
Version und überhaupt das einzige in Europa. Pilot Siegfried „Blacky"
Schwarz, der für diesen Helikopter eine spezielle Ausbildung in den USA
durchlaufen musste, führt das Einzelstück gekonnt auf Airshows vor. Wenn
die Bell nicht fliegt, kann sie natürlich jederzeit im Hangar-7 am Salzburg
Airport besichtigt werden.

Bell AH-1 Cobra
The Bell AH-1 "Cobra" is America's legendary Attack Helicopter. Its missions
for the "Flying Bulls" are now naturally only at air-shows
For many years it was the U.S. Army's classic combat helicopter. Built since
1966 in a variety of models, the Bell AH-1 Cobra achieved legendary status
during the Vietnam War. Since delivery of the first Apache attack helicop-
ters, the US Army has progressively distanced itself from the Cobra and
now only the US Marines are fully committed to this machine. The Flying
Bulls Cobra is an AH-1F which was built in the eighties and at the end of its
career was completely demilitarized and scrapped. The scrap remains which
had even been cut-through the middle were later discovered by the
American helicopter pilot and collector Chuck Aaron and by 2002 it had
been completely rebuilt. The Cobra not only impressed the public during
numerous air shows, but also took part in such TV series as „JAG" and
„Walker, Texas Ranger" - always with Chuck Aaron at the controls of cour-
se.
In 2004 Sigi 'Blacky' Schwarz discovered this treasure for the "Flying Bulls"
and after a long bout of export formalities - the Pentagon stretches its pro-
tective arm around former military inventory – was finally able to export it
to Salzburg where it was received with great honours in December 2005.
The Flying Bulls Bell AH-1F consists largely of brand new original parts. The
F version was the last Cobra with only one turbine to be built - and this
one is the last airworthy "F" model and indeed the only one in Europe. Pilot
Siegfried „Blacky" Schwarz, who had to undergo special training in the U.S.
for this type of helicopter skilfully displays this unique machine during air-
shows If the Bell is not flying, it can of course be viewed at any time in
Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport.
