Assembly and Startup
a) Install the "Raspberry Pi" into the housing
• The two halves of the enclosure supplied are joined by four clips.
Carefully loosen the clips, so that you can separate the two parts of the enclosure
from each other.
Be careful not to break the clips; that will lead to the loss of warranty/
guarantee.
• Insert the "Raspberry Pi" into the subpart of the case in such a way that the
openings of the case match those on the board.
• If you already have expansions for the "Raspberry Pi" connect them to the board,
and if applicable, run them outward. Matching cut-outs of the enclosure might be
required.
• Position the upper part and the bottom part of the enclosure accurately, so that the
four clips can snap into place.
b) Prepare the AC adapter
• In addition to the AC adapter, the delivery includes several adapters to fit different
socket designs.
• Slide the adaptor that corresponds to your power sockets onto the AC adapter until
the adapter snaps in securely.
In order to remove the adapter, on the marked area press "Push" and remove the
adapter from the AC adapter.
c) WLAN USB stick
• Connect the WLAN USB stick to a USB port on the "Raspberry Pi". At the time of
publication of these operating instructions, the wireless chipset used in the WLAN
USB stick was supported by the Linux system of the "Raspberry Pi"; separate
installation is not required.
d) Prepare and insert the SDHC memory card
• The SDHC memory card is used to boot the "Raspberry Pi" operating system.
Visit the following website to download the operating system and get further instal-
lation instructions:
www.designspark.com/raspberrypi
• After the memory card has been properly prepared with the operating system and
saved, insert the memory with the correct orientation into the memory card slot of
the "Raspberry Pi". Ensure that write-protect is disabled.
Avoid inserting or removing the memory card while the "Raspberry Pi" is
connected to the power supply. This can corrupt your operating system on
the memory card, and formatting of the memory card is required.
Important!
The setup on the memory card creates a Linux file system with parts that a
Windows operation system cannot read.
If you intend to use the memory card for example on a PC with a Windows
OS, the partitions on the memory card have to be fully deleted and a new
partition has be created that then must be formatted by a FAT file system.
You can use Windows file management (in Control Panels), and beyond that,
you can easily format the memory card in any conventional digital camera
(that can handle SD or SDHC memory cards).
e) Prepare the cable connections
• Depending on the purpose of your "Raspberry Pi" you can connect other devices
via interfaces.
The HDMI cable included allows you to connect a TV/monitor to the HDMI input.
f) Connect to the power supply
• Connect the micro USB plug of AC adapter to the corresponding ports on the "Rasp-
berry Pi".
• Insert the AC adapter into a proper power socket.
g) Operation
• When you have prepared your "Raspberry Pi" accordingly to the sections from a)
to e), the operating system will boot from the memory card and the applications you
have stored there will load.

literature.
WLAN range
The signal transmission of wireless radio waves between the WLAN USB stick, and
for example, your wireless router or access point is subject to many different factors.
Reduced speed depends on the distance and orientation of antennas and also on the
thickness of walls, reinforced concrete slabs, proximity to metallic and conductive
objects (such as radiators, steel doors, proximity to the human body, and to other elec-
trical devices or cables.
If the "Raspberry Pi" is placed in an unfavourable position, it may help using a USB
extension cable instead of inserting the WLAN USB stick directly into the USB port
of the „Raspberry Pi". Like that the WLAN USB stick can be placed in a position that
offers better reception of signals.
Cleaning
Use a clean, soft and dry cloth when cleaning the enclosure. Dust can be easily remo-
ved with the help of a long bristle, soft, clean brush and a vacuum cleaner. Do not use
abrasive cleaners, as this may cause discoloration of the housing.
Disposal
D o not dispose of electronic and electrical products with the household
waste.
Dispose of the product at the end of its service life in compliance with the
applicable statutory regulations.
