Ceiling-mounted motion detector 360°
Item no. 55 30 92
Intended use
The PIR sensor integrated in the ceiling-mounted motion detector responds to temperature
changes within the detection range, e.g. if a person, a large animal or a car enters the detection
range.
For this reason, the ceiling-mounted motion detector can be used for monitoring entrances,
staircases, etc.
The ceiling-mounted motion detector's output can be used, for example, for controlling a light
or another powered device.
Always observe the safety instructions included in these operating instructions. Please read the
operating instructions carefully and keep them.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves
the risk of short circuits, fi re, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be modifi ed or
converted!
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All company

Explanation of Symbols, Inscriptions
The lightning symbol in a triangle is used to alert you to potential risks for personal
injury, such as electric shock.
This symbol indicates specifi c risks associated with handling, function and use.
The "Hand" symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
The product is constructed according to Protection Class II.
This product is only to be installed and used indoors in dry conditions. The product
must not get damp or wet as there is danger of a fatal electric shock!
Safety Instructions
Read the complete operating manual carefully before using the product as it
contains important information about the correct installation and operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We are also not responsible for any consequential
damage!
We do not assume any liability for damage to property or personal injury
caused by improper use or disregard of safety instructions! The warranty will
be void in such cases!
Caution!
The product may be installed only by a qualifi ed technician (e.g. electrician)
who is familiar with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring
regulations)!
Improper work carried out at the mains voltage endangers not only your life
but also the life of others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it
yourself but entrust the work to a qualifi ed electrician.
• Unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not allowed for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children! There is
danger of a life-threatening electric shock!
• The product may be operated only on the mains voltage (see section "Connection"
and "Technical Data"). Never try to operate the product at another voltage, as this
will cause its destruction.
• This product is to be installed and used only in dry conditions indoors. The product
must not get damp or wet as there is danger of a fatal electric shock!

Preparations for Installation
• Keep a minimum distance of at least 1m from lights and other heat sources, in order to avoid
malfunctions or switching errors.
• Only install the ceiling-mounted motion detector on a solid, stable surface.
• The ceiling-mounted motion detector can be installed indoors underneath a horizontal sur-
face (e.g. room ceiling). Alternatively, it can also be mounted on a wall, depending on the
monitored area.
• The ceiling-mounted motion detector must be installed only when it is voltage-free.
Turn off the mains supply by switching off the appropriate circuit breaker or by pulling out the
fuse. Secure it against unauthorised reconnection, e.g. with a danger sign.
Furthermore, turn off the earth leakage circuit breaker to disconnect all the poles from the
mains voltage.
• Check the mains connection for absence of voltage using a suitable meter.
Function of the ceiling-mounted motion detector
The PIR sensor integrated in the ceiling-mounted motion detector responds to temperature
changes within the detection range, e.g. if a person or an animal, with a temperature different
from the background, enters the detection range.
To ensure optimum detection, the ceiling-mounted motion detector must be placed so that
the object to be detected does not approach the ceiling-mounted motion detector directly but
rather passes through the detection range from left to right or vice versa. Keep this in mind
when installing the product.
The PIR range specifi ed in the
"Specifi cations" chapter is achiev-
able in practice only under optimal
conditions.
It should also be noted that the
detection range is tapered, which
results in appropriate restrictions
on detection performance.
If a person or an animal enters the detection range (see picture above), then the ceiling-
mounted motion detector is triggered only when the heat difference to the background is
suffi ciently large.
The range for detecting motion is determined by several factors:
• The ceiling-mounted motion detector's installation height
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• The size of the object
• The distance of the object from the ceiling-mounted motion detector
• Direction and speed of the movement
• Ambient temperature
• Only use the product when it is securely installed and steady. Never install / operate
it in vehicles.
• Do not use the ceiling-mounted motion detector in rooms or under adverse am-
bient conditions where combustible gases, vapours or dust are or may be present!
There is a risk of explosion!
• The product must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or
heavy mechanical stress.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, the device must be
turned off and precautions are to be taken to ensure that it is not used unintentionally.
After this, arrange for an expert to check the product.
A safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage
- The product does not work at all or works poorly (where there is fl ickering light,
leaking smoke or a smell of burning, audible crackling noises, or discolouration
to the product or to adjacent surfaces)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer's
Liability Insurance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Facilities are
to be observed!
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our
technical service or another specialist.
Please refer to the section "Safety Information"!
