AKASA WLAN USB3.0
Hard Drive Docking Station
Item no. 64 99 83
Intended use
The docking station provides the option to use either an 8.89 cm/3.5" SATA hard drive or a
6.35 cm/2.5" hard drive (not included in the delivery). The hard drive can be removed from the
docking station using the ejection mechanism.
The hard drive can be operated via a USB3.0 interface.
As a special feature, the docking station (the USB3.0 connection has to be disconnected) pro-
vides the option to use the hard drive via WLAN - namely for PCs, iOS devices and/or Android
devices. The App required for iOS and Android devices can be downloaded free of charge in
the corresponding App store.
The external wall plug transformer provided is used to supply the power of the docking station
and the hard drive inserted in the docking station.

the hands of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• The product is intended for use only in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product
should become damp or wet; never handle it if your hands are wet!
Wall plug transformers have the potential to cause a fatal electric shock!
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with Protection Class II. Use only
a standard mains socket as the power source for the wall plug transformer.
The mains socket into which the wall plug transformer is plugged must be easily
accessible.

• Do not pull the wall plug transformer from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
Hold it on the sides of the casing and pull it out of the mains socket.
• If the wall plug transformer is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from
electric shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the socket to which the wall plug transformer
is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or remove the safety

Inserting the hard drive into the docking station
• Disconnect the docking station from the power supply or switch it off.
• Insert a SATA hard drive (either 8.89 cm/3.5" or 6.35 cm/2.5") with the correct orientation in
the opening of the docking station. Do not exert any force. Do not touch the hard drive or the
electronic components!
• Connect the docking station to the power supply or switch it on.
Removing the Hard Drive from the Docking Station
• Disconnect the docking station from the power supply or switch it off.
• Then wait until the magnetic disks in the hard drive have come to a complete stop. This can
take up to 30 seconds.
• Press down the unlocking push-button on the side of the docking station. The hard drive
is pushed out of the contact strip through the integrated lever mechanism and can thus be
removed easily.
USB operation
• Switch on your computer, if you have not yet done so, and wait until the operating system has
fi nished loading.
• Connect the circular low voltage plug of the wall plug transformer provided to the correspond-
ing socket on the docking station.
• Connect the wall plug transformer to the mains voltage; plug it into a mains socket.
• Connect the USB3.0 socket on the rear of the docking station to a free USB3.0 port on your
computer using the USB3.0 cable provided.
• Place the docking station on a fl at, level, stable surface. The docking station with the hard
drive installed must not tip over; the installed hard drive will be damaged by this (especially
when the docking station is switched on and the hard drive is in use).
Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using a suitable mat to prevent scratches or pressure
points.
• Switch on the docking station.
• Windows automatically detects the docking station during initial start-up and completes the
driver installation (the drivers are included in the operating system).
A new hard disk fi rst has to be partitioned and formatted, before the drive is displayed in the
File Explorer and can be used, see next section "Partitioning and formatting".
WLAN operation
• Switch the docking station off.
• Disconnect the USB connection between the docking station and the computer.
You can then unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket. Dispose of
the faulty wall plug transformer in an environmentally friendly way, do not use it any
more. Replace it with a wall plug transformer of the same design.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
falls, even from a low height.
The product and the hard drive inserted therein must not be exposed to extreme
temperatures, direct sunlight or strong vibrations.
WLAN is not possible in USB mode.
Only when an USB3.0 port is used is the fast transfer mode available; the maximum
data transfer speed for USB2.0 or USB1.1 ports respectively is lower.
For operation via iOS devices or Android devices you fi rst have to download the
corresponding App from the "Apple App Store" or from the "Google Play Store",
depending on the type of device you use.
Search for the free App "akasa air", download the app and install it.
Important!
For an easy initial start up, the encryption has been disabled. For safety reasons,
we recommend you to use the WPA2 encryption and to confi gure all devices accord-
ingly.
In WLAN mode simultaneous connection via USB is not possible.
