Partitioning/formatting the hard disk drive
• In Windows
, you can partition and format the hard drive via the Control Panel.
®
• First, make a new partition.
• Then format the newly created partition. A quick format is sufficient. Depending on the
capacity of the hard disk drive, a regular format may take a long time to complete.
Consult a technician if you are unsure how to partition/format the hard disk drive.
Removing a hard disk drive
• Stop all access to the hard disk drive. Close all opened files.
• Safely remove the hard disk drive with the operating system.
• Wait at least 30 seconds until the hard disk drive stops.
When using an SSD, you do not need to wait for 30 seconds; you can remove the
SSD immediately.
• Hold the side of the hard disk drive casing and gently pull it up and out. Do not use force
when removing it.
• Close the opening with the rubber cover.
Storage
• Disconnect the cable from the product and the computer.
• After you have removed the hard drive, gently press the top housing part down until it clicks
into place.
• Slide the latch button on the bottom in the direction of the arrow to open the storage
compartment.
• First stow the cable in the storage compartment.
• Then stow the hard drive in the storage compartment if necessary.
• Close the storage compartment.
Tips and notes
a) USB 3.0
• USB 3.0 devices are backwards compatible. This means that the product with an installed
hard disk drive also works with traditional USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 ports. However, the transfer
speed will be reduced accordingly.
• If your computer has a USB 3.0 controller, transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s are possible
depending on the hard disk drives installed in your computer and in the product.
• If you are connecting the product to a USB hub, the USB hub must support the USB 3.0
standard in order to provide the maximum transfer speed.
• If you use a conventional USB 2.0 /1.1 cable instead of the included USB 3.0 cable, the
transmission speed will be reduced accordingly.
b) General information
• As soon as the product is switched on, the LED lights up.
• The LED flashes during read/write access.
• Please note that certain operating systems do not support external hard disk drives with
a capacity >2 TB. Contact the customer service of your operating system vendor for more
information.
• Note that files may be damaged and the operating system may crash if the connection cable
is disconnected when data is being transferred. Always unmount the hard disk drive via the
operating system before disconnecting the connection cable.
• Always handle hard disk drives carefully. Vibrations during use and even a few seconds after
the hard disk drive has turned off may make the read/write heads touch the magnetic disk,
which can destroy the hard disk drive.
• When connecting the hard disk drive for the first time, it may take approximately one minute
for the hard disk drive to be recognised. This time may vary depending on the operating
system.
Care and cleaning
• Before cleaning, unplug the product from the operating system. Disconnect the cable from
the computer. Wait at least 30 seconds until the magnetic plates on the hard disk drive have
come to a complete standstill. Remove the hard drive.
When using an SSD, you do not need to wait for 30 seconds; you can remove the
SSD immediately.
• Never immerse the product in water or other liquids.
• Never use aggressive detergents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, as these may
damage the housing or cause the product to malfunction.
• Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the product.
Disposal
