proper handling in this manual, we assume no liability for any resulting
personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the

• Do not move the product when the hard drive is in operation. Turn it off and
wait a minimum of 30 seconds.
• Grasp the hard disk laterally in the housing, do not touch the plate with the
electronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard disk.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked
nor pinched.
• As power supply, only use the supplied mains adaptor.
• Only connect the power adaptor to a normal mains socket connected to
the public supply. Before plugging in the power adaptor, check whether
the voltage stated on the power adaptor complies with the voltage of your
electricity supplier.
• Never connect or disconnect power adaptors if your hands are wet.
• Never unplug the power adaptor from the mains socket by pulling on the
cable; always use the grips on the plug.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is not pinched,
kinked or damaged by sharp edges.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled
in them. This poses a risk of injury.
• For safety reasons, disconnect the power adaptor from the mains socket
during storms.
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may
become dangerous playing material for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong
jolts, high humidity, moisture, flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of
operation and protect it from any accidental use. Safe operation can no
longer be guaranteed if the product:

by an expert or at a qualified shop.

Operation
When not in use, always keep the docking station closed to prevent dust
entering the station. The docking station is equipped with a cover that
closes the insertion slot up to the opening for a 6.4 cm (2.5") SATA hard disk
drive. Always place a dry, dust-free and lint-free cloth over the opening if no
hard disk drive is inserted.
• Connect the plug of the mains cable to the
back of the docking station. Plug the mains plug of the power supply unit into a
suitable mains socket.
• If the lighting of the on/off switch located on top is turned on, push the on/off switch
down until you hear a click to turn the docking station off.
• Connect the USB-B plug (
) of the USB 3.0 cable to the
socket on the back of the docking station.
• Connect the USB-A plug (
socket on your PC.
• Hold the hard disk drive sideways on the enclosure and align the SATA port to the
SATA plug inside the docking station.
• Carefully insert the hard disk drive in the insertion slot as far as it will go (see Ill. 1).
The cover opens automatically. If you are using a 6.4 cm (2.5") SATA hard disk drive,
push it directly through the opening in the cover.
• Make sure that the hard disk drive rests firmly on the SATA plug inside the docking
station.
• Press the on/off switch down until you hear a click to turn the docking station on
(see Ill. 2). The lighting of the on/off switch and of the LC display switches on.
• If the USB 3.0 cable is connected to your PC, the "USB" control display next to the
speed display lights up. If the USB 3.0 cable is connected to a USB 3.0 connection
socket, the "
" control display also lights up.
• Now you can begin data transmission. The LC display indicates the data transmission
speed in megabytes per second (MB/s). The "USB" control display flashes while
data is being transmitted.
• Before you switch the docking station off, disconnect the USB connection by
ejecting the drive.
• After use, turn the docking station off using the on/off switch. Wait 30 seconds
before removing the hard disk.
• Hold the docking station firmly while you pull out the hard disk drive.
• When the product will not be used for longer periods of time, unplug the mains plug
from the wall outlet and disconnect the USB plug from your computer.
• You can store the USB 3.0 cable in the side compartment (see Ill. 3).

Tips and notes
• The docking station supports plug & play and hot-swapping (device drivers are
recognised automatically and devices can be removed from the PC while the
operating system is running).
• USB 3.0 devices are downwardly compatible. This means that the enclosure with
the installed hard disk drive also functions on conventional USB 2.0 ports – but then
only at the maximum USB 2.0 speed.
• You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating
system may crash if the connection cable is disconnected while data are being
transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the power unit is disconnected).
