GENERAL INFORMATION ON BATTERIES AND RECHARGEABLE
BATTERIES
• Keep batteries/rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children.
• Please observe the correct polarity (positive/+ and negative/-) when inserting
batteries/rechargeable batteries.
• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around openly. There is
a risk of batteries being swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult
a doctor immediately.
• Leaking or damaged batteries can burn your skin if touched. Therefore, you
should use suitable protective gloves.
• Make sure that batteries/rechargeable batteries are not short-circuited,
dismantled or thrown into fire. There is danger of explosion!
• Do not recharge normal batteries. There is danger of explosion! Only charge
rechargeable batteries that are intended for that purpose and use a suitable
battery charger.
• Remove the battery/rechargeable battery if the device is not used over a
longer period of time (e.g. when stored).
Old batteries/rechargeable batteries can leak and cause damage to the
product; loss of guarantee/warranty!
• Remove flat batteries/rechargeable batteries from the device immediately.
• For the environmentally friendly disposal of batteries and rechargeable
batteries, please read the chapter "Disposal".

INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY

• Open the battery compartment on the back of the device. Loosen the retaining screw
from the battery compartment lid using a suitable slotted screwdriver and take off the
battery compartment lid.
• Connect the 9V (PP3) battery to the battery clip observing the correct polarity and insert
it into the battery compartment.
• Put the battery compartment lid back on and screw it tight. Make sure the battery clip
cable does not get squeezed.
• The battery must be replaced if after switching on the device (switch position "94dB" or
"114dB") the LED on the sound level calibrator lights up red or not at all or if no whistling
sound can be heard.
CALIBRATING A SOUND LEVEL METER
The sound level output on the calibrator is designed for microphones with a diameter of 1
inch. If the diameter of your sound level meter is 0.5 inches, please use the provided
microphone adapter. For this purpose, firmly plug the adapter into the sound level output.
Caution: When plugging the adapter into the sound level output of the
calibrator, make sure the opening of the adapter is not covered. Push the
microphone into the opening slowly and carefully as well. Otherwise the
diaphragm inside the sound level calibrator can be damaged!
Move the slide switch in the desired position (94dB or 114dB). You should select the level
which is closer to the maximum of the measuring range of the sound level meter. A low
1000-Hz sound must be audible, the LED lights up green.
If the LED lights up red (or not at all), the battery is flat and must be replaced with a
new one. Sound generation (1000-Hz sound) is deactivated automatically when the
battery is exhausted!
Slowly insert the microphone of the sound level meter to be calibrated into the opening of
the sound level output.
Switch on your sound level meter and check the information on the display. If the
information on the display of the sound level meter deviates more than 0.5dB from the
output level (94dB or 114dB) of the sound level calibrator, the sound level meter has to be
readjusted.
Select the other position of the slide switch (94dB or 114dB) to check the linearity of the
sound level meter.
