Take particular care when dealing with voltages exceeding 25 V AC or 35 V DC. Even
with voltages as low as these, it is possible to receive a life-threatening electric shock
if you touch electric conductors. Therefore first de-energise the voltage source,
connect the measuring instrument to the connections on the voltage source to be
measured, set the required voltage measurement range on the measuring instrument,
then switch on the voltage source. When measurement has been completed, de-
energise the voltage source and remove the cables from the connections on the volta-
ge source.
Only operate the measuring instrument with the housing securely closed and screwed
down.
Never apply mains voltage to the measurement inputs. This could damage the instru-
ment and cause fatal injury. Do not exceed the maximum input parameters and also
make sure the measurement signals are electrically isolated from the mains potential.
Do not operate the measuring instrument in areas or unfavourable conditions where
combustible gases, vapours or dust are or may be present. For your own safety,
always ensure that the measuring instrument and cables cannot become wet or
damp. Avoid operation in the immediate vicinity of
a) strong magnetic fields (loudspeakers, magnets)
b)electromagnetic fields (transformers, motors, coils, relays, contactors, electroma-
gnets etc.)
c) electrostatic fields (charges/discharges)
d)transmitting aerials or HF generators, radar equipment,
which could corrupt the measured value.
To avoid electric shock ensure that you do not touch the pivots and the measurement
connections (measuring points), even indirectly, during measurement.
When it has to be accepted that safe operation is no longer possible, the device must
be taken out of service and precautions taken to prevent unintended use. It must be
assumed that safe operation is no longer possible when
- the device shows signs of visible damage,
- the device no longer functions and
- after fairly long storage under unfavourable conditions or
- following considerable stress during transportation.
Do not switch the measuring instrument on immediatelyafter it has been taken from a
cold to a warm environment. The condensation occurring could destroy the device.
Leave the device switched off and allow it to reach room temperature.
