EXERCISES WITH SINGLE BOARD
The following exercises are examples only; the program of exercises to be
performed must be prescribed by the doctor or physiotherapist.
Exercise 1.1: Joint stabilisation (fig. A–C)
Position the rehabilitation board so that you can perform bending and stretching
movements (forwards and backwards). Place the foot of the injured leg on the
board while keeping the torso at a vertical position to the leg. Take half a step
forwards or backwards with the upper body kept in an upright position.
Exercise 1.2: Proprioception training (fig. D–F)
(to be executed with the knee in flexed position of 20°–30°)
Position the large rehabilitation board so that you can perform bending and
stretching movements (forwards and backwards). Stand on the board with bare
feet at first and try to adopt a correct position. Correct any wrong positions and
postures (e.g. fallen arches) by tensing the muscles and pressing the feet against
the board to avoid slipping (this is made easier by the ribbing). The heel and
big toe must have good contact with the board. Perform the movements by putting
some weight on the injured ankle. The board must turn around on its axis, as far
as permitted by the ankle's mobility, WITHOUT EXPERIENCING ANY PAIN
(the edges do not need to the touch the floor).
