Bit Error Rate: Quality of a received, demodulated data
signal. The lower the rate, the better the signal.
Community Antenna Television: Reception of radio and TV
channels via a community antenna.
Controls the user's access to services and channels which
are scrambled due to copyright and commercial reasons.
Coaxial connector for connecting a TV set or stereo system.
Digital Audio Broadcasting: The system additionally offers
data transmission capacities. Data compression is carried
out via MPEG-2.
Number of data bits transmitted per second, specified in
kbit/s or Mbit/s. The higher the data rate, the better the
transmitted signal.
Compression of picture and sound signals. Redundant
information is omitted.
Direct Current
Digital Video Broadcasting: Transmission of video and
sound signals in digitised form. DVB-S stands for satellite,
DVB-T for terrestrial and DVB-C for cable transmission.
Dolby Digital is a sound transmission process which enables
digital surround-sound on a home cinema system.
Electronic Programme Guide: Helps the user to select a
programme by providing detailed information.
A technique which lowers the error rate during data
transmission. Additional bits are inserted into the data flow,
so that error correction algorithms can be applied on
reception.
High-Definition Television: For analogue standards.
Development is based on, and is used as the basis for
further developing, the PAL standard to form PAL plus.
