As a result of this, any obstructive loops (formation of loose rope) can be avoided. When the
user has reached his working position, he places the adjustable connecting rope around a
sufficiently sized object (in terms of solidity) and then hooks the karabiner hook onto the
other lateral retaining eyelet on the harness (with an integrated retaining function) or
retaining belt. Now, before he reclines backwards into the mast securing rope, he once again
checks the adjustable connector for retention belts that are wrapped around the object.
On no account should the attached object have sharp edges, as through this, the adjustable
connector will become damaged. In this case, additional equipment should be used, such as
an edge protector, a protector tube etc.
After this check, the user can then make the rope (connector) shorter by pulling on the free
end of the connector and, at the same time, release tension from the rope (connector) / make
the connector longer by applying pressure to the actuation lever. Here as well, it is necessary
to release tension from the rope (connector). By securing the end at the end of the
connector, the length adjustment device cannot slip out.
Adjustable connectors for retention belts should only be used with retention belts in
accordance with EN 358 or harnesses with integrated retention functions in accordance with
EN 361 and EN 358.
Caution:
As a general rule, the adjustable connectors for retention belts should be attached with two
strands and adjusted tight enough so that it is impossible for the user to fall free. The
attachment point for the adjustable connectors for retention belts must be located above the
waist. The connectors must remain taught and free movement should be limited to 0.60 m.
If there is a risk of falling when working in high workplaces, additional securing is required
(e.g. harness systems in accordance with EN 363)
2.2.
Component part of a retention system for securing on flat roofs
As a component part of a retention system for securing on flat roofs, adjustable connectors
for retention belts are used for stabilizing the user's work position, or as a length limiter in
order to prevent him reaching areas where there is a risk of falling from a height.
The connector for retention belts for securing on flat roofs is not a fall arrest system
If the user has to work in the vicinity of an edge and the anchoring point is further than 2 m
from this edge, e.g. on a flat roof, he can adjust the required length with the aid of this
adjustable connector for retention belts and secure himself. In no case does this device act
as a securing measure against falls. The adjustable connector gives the user the possibility
to secure his working position in relation to the edge in order to prevent him falling over it in
any case.
The user takes the adjustable connector and fastens the mountain climber's hook of the
connector's length adjustment device (supplied) to the anchoring point of the flat roof
securing device (e.g. securants, horizontal anchoring device type HA 4). If the opening of this
hook is too small, use a karabiner hook type MAS 65 or MAS 50 with an opening of at least
50 mm. This is done by hooking the mountain climber hook into the ring of the large
karabiner hook.
The free end of the connector (rope) with the karabiner hook is hooked onto the retention
eyelet of the harness belt (EN 361). Following this, the required length of the connector is
adjusted variably by applying pressure to the actuation lever. At the same time, care should
be taken that the connector (rope) is not held taut, as otherwise, drawing through for length
adjustment is not possible. If the length adjustment device is let go of, it stops automatically
at the connector. A back splice is located at the end of the connector in order to prevent the
length adjustment device from slipping out. This adjustable connector for retention belts for
securing on flat roofs should neither be lengthened nor manipulated.

and should not be used as such.
