INSERTING/REPLACING BATTERIES/
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
Carefully open the battery compartment (12) on the back using a large fl at screw-
driver or a coin and insert a CR 2032 type button cell battery, paying attention to
the correct polarity.
Immediately after inserting the battery, the radio timer will start searching for the
DCF signal (see also section "DCF Reception").
Close the battery compartment (12) again.
The battery must be replaced if the display contrast fades or if there is no display
at all.
 
The use of rechargeable batteries leads to a shorter operating time, because

DCF RECEPTION
Immediately after the battery is inserted, the device makes the fi rst attempt to
receive the DCF signal. After a successful DCF reception, the clock is automatically
set to the current time.
 
The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take 3-5 minutes.
Do not move the radio timer during this time. Do not press any buttons or
switches!
Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.
If the clock has not adjusted to the current time after 5 minutes, change the
location of the radio timer.
One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the deviation to less than 1
second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF transmitter in Mainfl ingen
(near Frankfurt). Its range is up to 1500 km and, under ideal reception conditions,
even up to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time (theoretical deviation
of 1 second in a million years!).
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting summer and winter
time.
