The DNS Universal decoder retrofit kit
The
decoder retrofit kit DNS Universal
licenced decoder (descrambler), a video recorder (e.g. for use in a hotel), or a
monitor camera (e.g. on a playground).
This decoder is appropriate to couple in and out video and audio signals.
In addition it is possible to remotely control this retrofit kit via a 0/12 Volt swit-
ching voltage so that it can be used, for example, to switch over between a moni-
tor camera and SAT TV or SAT radio programmes.
Note!
The pin assignment of the 15-pin Sub-D socket is to be found on page 34 in
the chapter "Technical Data".
The external module is switched via the 12 V switching voltage input Pin 3 of the
Sub-D socket into the signal path.
Most decoders/descramblers, video recorders or video cameras furnish a 12 V
switching voltage at the EURO/AV socket (pin 8 ).
If the external module does not furnish a 12 V switching voltage, then refer to the
section "External modules without 12 V switching voltage" below.
Remote switch-over

It is possible to remotely switch over between the video/audio signals of the SAT

programmes and the signals from the external module.
Switch-over can either be effected manually or, for example, via a timer or a
Socket
dimness switch.
The switch can be connected to the pins 9 and 3 of the 15-pin plug of the en-

closed adapter cable (12 V/10 mA switching voltage) (see Fig.).

External modules without 12 V switching voltage
In order to switch the video/audio signal from an external module without own
switching voltage (e.g. decoder/descrambler, video recorder or video camera)
into the signal path, an external 12 V switching voltage must be applied at pin 3
of the decoder socket (switching voltage input).
Connect the 2 solder pins!
Switching the video/audio signal of external modules

To do this connect the two solder pins on the component side of the module with
each other (see Fig.).

To do this connect Pin 9 (12 V/10 mA switching voltage) with Pin 3 inside the 15-
pin plug of the enclosed adapter cable (see Fig.).

Installing and connecting the decoder retrofit kit
Attention!
Before installing the decoder retrofit kit disconnect the mains
plug of the head station from the mains socket!
Remove the housing cover of the head station.
1
2
Cut the three wire bridges BR 01000, BR 01001 and BR 01002 on the com-
ponent side of the analog module (see Fig.).
3
Pierce the pre-punched cutout in the base plate of the head station.
4
Insert the 15-pin Sub-D socket of the decoder retrofit kit into the cutout and fix
it with the enclosed screws.
Note!
Do not use any toothed or similar washers!
5
Plug one connector of the flat ribbon cable into the connector of the decoder.
Plug the other connector of the flat ribbon cable into the
the chassis board.
6
Refit and fix the housing cover of the head station.
Note!
The installation of a second or of several decoder retrofit kits is described in
the
Servie Manual STC 1880
.
