Intended Use
This product is intended to display the time and the date. Furthermore, the room temperature is
shown on the display.
The time is set automatically using an integrated DCF receiver.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves the risk
of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product may be modified or converted.
The safety instructions must be observed at all times.

cal loads.
• If you have any doubts about the correct operation, or the safety of the product,
please consult a specialist.
• This product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children. Use the prod-
uct only out of the reach of children; the product contains parts and batteries that
can be swallowed.
• Do not leave packaging materials unattended. It may become a dangerous plaything

• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impact, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.

ating instructions.
Notes on Batteries and Rechargeable Batteries
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must be kept out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; there is a risk that they
could be swallowed by children or pets. If they are swallowed, consult a doctor im-
mediately.
• Leaking or damaged normal/rechargeable batteries in contact with the skin can
cause acid burns; therefore, use suitable safety gloves.
• Normal/rechargeable batteries may not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into
fire. There is a risk of explosion!
• Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries; there is a risk of explosion!
Only charge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable
battery charger.
• Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries/rechargeable batter-
ies (pay attention to plus and minus signs).

Inserting/Replacing Batteries/Rechargeable Batteries
• Open the battery compartment at the back of the housing and insert three batteries of type AA/
Mignon, observing the correct polarity.
• The correct polarity is indicated in the battery compartment.
• Close the battery compartment.
• After inserting the batteries, the radio tower symbol starts to flash in the display.
• The radio-controlled alarm clock now attempts to receive a DCF signal (see also the chapter
"DCF reception").
• The batteries need to be changed if the display contrast diminishes or the display no longer
functions.
The use of rechargeable batteries is possible. However, the lower operating voltage
(rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, battery 1.5 V) and lower capacity will reduce the operat-
ing time.
If no sensible information is shown in the display, please press the RESET button (7)
with a pointed object (e.g. with a bent paper clip) to activate the reset function. In doing
so, the internal processor is reset and is able to function properly again.
DCF Reception
• After the batteries have been inserted, the clock searches automatically for the DCF signal. This
is indicated by a flashing radio tower symbol on the display.
• Normally, the synchronisation process is completed within no more than ten minutes.
• As soon as the DCF signal is decoded, the display OK appears and the current time and date are
shown in the display.
• During summer time, DTS (Daylight Saving Time) will be shown additionally on the display.
The detection of the DCF signal and its evaluation takes a few minutes. Do not move the
radio-controlled alarm clock during this time. Do not press any buttons or switches!
Bad DCF reception can occur, for example, due to metallised insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic devices
or in cellars.
If the current time is not displayed after 10 minutes, change the position of the radio-
controlled alarm clock and start a manual attempt again to detect the DCF signal (see
chapter "Manual DCF reception attempt").
Attempts to receive the DCF signal for daily automatic synchronisation are made between 2:00 a.m.
and 3:00 a.m. If the device does not receive any signal, the WAVE OK display goes out and the clock
starts a new reception attempt every three hours.
One successful reception per day is sufficientto keep the
deviation to less than one second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF trans-
mitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range is
up to 1,500 km and, under ideal reception conditions, even
up to 2,000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time
(theoretical deviation of one second in a million years!) and
the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting
up summer and winter times.
Manual DCF reception attempt
• To perform a manual search for the DCF signal (e.g., if you have placed the radio wall clock in a
different location), briefly press the SET/WAVE button (4).
• This will start a manual reception attempt. Then, as described above, wait until the current time
is displayed.
• Press the SET key (4) again to cancel the manual DCF reception attempt.
