3.1.2. Work area setup
Make sure the workspace is well lit for work.
•
Make sure that the work area is free of flammable liquids, vapors or dusts that may ignite. Sparks can
•
be generated during drain cleaner operation. Do not work in the area until these sources of ignition
have been identified and remedied.
Do not use the device in water. If necessary, remove the water from the work area.
•
Make sure the power outlet is properly grounded. A three-pin or PRCD outlet may not be properly
•
grounded. If in doubt, have the socket checked by a licensed electrician.
Make sure there is a free, unobstructed path from the Drain Cleaner to the power outlet.
•
Examine the drain to be cleaned. If possible, determine the best access to the drain, the size and length
•
of the drain and the type of blockage. Check for drainage chemicals or other chemicals.
If chemicals are in the drain, read and follow the specific safety measures required to avoid these
•
chemicals. If necessary, contact the chemical manufacturer for required safety instructions and
information.
If necessary, remove obstacles (toilet, sink, etc.) to gain access to the drain and prevent damage to these
•
parts. Do not pass the cable through obstacles. This can damage the drain cleaner and the device.
Determine the correct length of the drain cleaning rope. (see table below)
•
If necessary, place protective covers on the floor around the work area.
•
Make sure that the grip of the drain cleaner is locked in an upright position for transport.
•
Install the selected cutting tool. Secure with a screwdriver.
•
Position the footswitch for easy access. You must be able to hold and control the cable, operate the
•
footswitch, and reach the power switch.
Make sure that the main switch is OFF.
•
Lead the string along the free path. Connect the drain cleaner to a properly grounded outlet with dry
•
hands. Keep all connections dry and on the ground.
When using an extension cord, the PRCD switch on the drain cleaner does not protect the extension
•
cord. If the outlet is not protected by FI switches, use a PRCD switch between the socket and the
extension cord. This reduces the risk of electric shock if the extension cord is broken.
