Troubleshooting

Problem
LED "POWER" does not lit up
The RCS does not indicate that a
DMI-8 is connected to the MCA-ES
The "EXT" LED is not lit up, even
though an external word clock has
been connected.
The "EXT" LED blinks continuously
green. (Blinking for a short period
following connecting the IN port
to the network is normal, and
indicates that the synchronization
process is being carried out).
The "EXT" LED blinks continuously
yellow. (Blinking for a short period
following activation of an external
word clock is normal, and indicates
that the synchronization process is
being carried out).
The "EXT" LED blinks continuously
red.
The "VALID" GN 1..8 blinks continu-
ously, even though a DMI-8 is con-
nected via GN .
Possible causes
Missing power supply
The DMI was not switched on
at the time when the RCS was
started.
The same ID has been used for
more than one device (MCA-ES or
DMI-8).
The ID has been changed in
operation.
Incorrect interface setting (USB,
Ethersound, COM1).
CONTROL BUS between MCA-ES
and DMI-8 not connected
No word clock signal has been
detected.
Synchronization to the network
not successful. Network instable.
Check the network quality e.g. by
ES Monitor, use shorter network
cables if needed.
Synchronization to the BNC input
not successful. This can occur,
for example, if the word clock
frequency deviates by more than
± 50 ppm form the nominal value.
IN port connected to the Ether-
sound network and external word
clock feed into the BNC input.
DMI-8 not synchronized to the
MCA-ES
Solution
Connect a GN input to a DMI-8 and
switch it on.
Do not start the RCS until the DMI
has been switched on, or execute
the command Options/DMI and
then close the window again.
Set the ID by means of the coding
switch on the back of the DMI;
each DMI must have a diff erent ID!
Aft er an ID is changed, the DMI
and MCA-ES must be restarted.
Then restart the RCS, or execute
the command Options/DMI and
then close the window again.
Select the correct interface in the
RCS via the command Options/
Communication.
Cascade the devices using patch
cables.
Check the source of the word clock
signal and the cable connection.
Check the word clock frequency or
select another source for the word
clock signal. Alternatively, remove
the external word clock and use
the DMI internal word clock as the
master word clock for the signal
chain.

the external word clock and use

Remove the cable from the BNC in-
put because of highest priority of
MCA-ES network synchronization
Connect the BNC WCLK OUT to the
DMI-8 WCLK IN (LED EXT WCLK of
the DMI-8 has to lit up continu-
ously).
