Owners of old appliances from private households can
return them free of charge to the collection centres of
the public waste disposal authorities or to the collection
points set up by manufacturers or distributors in
accordance with the ElektroG. Free collection points for
old electrical appliances are available in your
neighbourhood, as well as other collection points for the
reuse of appliances. You can obtain the addresses from
your city or local authority.
Distributors with a sales area for electrical and
electronic equipment of at least 400 square metres and
food distributors with a total sales area of at least 800
square metres who offer electrical and electronic
equipment several times a calendar year or
permanently and make it available on the market are
also obliged to take back old electrical and electronic
equipment free of charge.When supplying a new
electrical or electronic appliance to an end user, they
must take back free of charge an old appliance of the
end user of the same type that essentially fulfils the
same functions as the new appliance at the point of
sale or in the immediate vicinity and, without the
purchase of an electrical or electronic appliance, take
back free of charge up to three old appliances per type
that are not larger than 25 centimetres in any external
dimension in the retail shop or in the immediate vicinity
