* For stable timer operation, after turning on the power please allow
about § seconds to elapse before depressing an operating button.
5. Recording Level Control (REC LEVEL)
For recording level adjustment. Turn clockwise to in-
crease the recording level.
* Enumerated positions facilitate easy fade-in (gradual increase in
volume at the beginning of a musical selection) and fade-out (gradual
decrease in volume at the end) recording operations.
6. TAPE COUNTER and RESET Button
7. TIMER START Switch
REC: Set to this position for absentee recording
with a timer.
OFF: Set to this position at all other times when the
timer start operation is not to be engaged.
PLAY: Set to this position for timed playback with a
timer.
8. Headphone Jack (PHONES) (CS-F12 only)
Accommodates stereo headphones of 8 ohms im-
pedance for monitoring or private headphone listening.
9. FLD Bar Meter
Shows the VU reading for both recording and playback
for both channels.
10. TAPE SELECTOR
Set to position corresponding to the tape for the correct
equalization and bias adjustment.

NORM.—Normal position tapes (Low noise or low noise
high output tapes)
METAL—Metal position tapes

11. DOLBY NR and FILTER Switch
DOLBY NR ON, FILTER OFF:
Use for recording or playback with Dolby NR
DOLBY NR ON, FILTER ON:
Use for recording with Dolby NR from FM stereo broad-
casts.
DOLBY NR OFF:
Use for recording or playback without Dolby NR.
Recording (REC) BALANCE Control
For left and right recording level balance. Turning clock-
wise reduces the input level of the left channel and turn-
ing counterclockwise reduces the input level of the
right channel. The input level of left and right channels
is equal when set to the center click position.
13. Microphone Jacks (MIC-L: Left, MIC-R: Right)
* Some models have MONO MIC jack. Connect to this jack for
monophonic recording.

14. LINE IN Pin-plug Cord
Connect to the REC jacks of an integrated amplifier.
15. LINE OUT Pin-plug Cord
Connect to the PLAY jacks of an integrated amplifier.

16. LINE/DIN Selector (Some models do not have this
facility.)
LINE: Set to this position for input from the LINE IN
jacks.
DIN: Set to this position for input from the DIN jack.
17. LINE IN Jacks (RIGHT and LEFT)
18. DIN Jack (Some models do not have this facility.)
Can be used instead of the LINE IN and OUT jacks for
connection with an external amplifier through a DIN
connection cord.
