BEFORE
OPERATION
• Thankyou for buyingthis PIONEERproduct.
• Read the InstructionManualcarefully beforeusing thesespeakersso that you
can operatethem properly. After you have finished, put this manualaway in a
safe placefor futurereference.
•The ratedimpedanceof these speakers is 8 Q. They must be connectedto an
amplifierwhich acceptsthis type of load (miminumand maximum impedances
acceptedby the amplifier are generallyindicatednear the speakersoutlets:for
example"4-16Q" or "6-16Q").
• To guardagainstdamageto thesespeakersdue to an electricpower overload,
take the followingprecautions:
not supply more than the maximumpermittedpowerto the speakers
(seeSpecifications).
connectionor switchingon or off of part of the audio system (CD
player, tuner etc.) must be carriedout after switchingoff the amplifieror at
least with the loudspeakeroutlets disconnected(if the amplifier allows).
Interferencecaused by these operationswill otherwisereach the speakers
and maydamagethe trebleloudspeakerunits.
When boostingparticularfrequenciesusing a graphicequaliseror bass
and treble correctors, make sure that you do not increase the amplifier
volumeexcessively, a s the speakerswill be overloadedmore quickly.
not force a low-poweramplifierto producea high level of sound as
harmonic distortion increases rapidly in this situation and may pose a
danger to the treble speaker units.
• Avoidtouchingthe diaphragmsand suspensionsof speakersunits as they are
fragile.
INSTALLATION
PRECAUTION
•For optimumsound reproductionof high frequencies, t he treble speakerunits
mustbe at the sameheightas the listener'sears.
•For low frequencies, it is possibleto increase the level of bass sounds by
positioningthe speakersclose to a wall (the maximumincreasebeing obtained
for a positionin a cornerof the listeningroom).
•Do not install the speakers close to an oven or heating appliance.Avoid
exposing them to direct sunlight. High temperatures can distort the structure of
the enclosureand adverselyaffectthe sound.
•These speakersare heavy and fragile, and it is thereforedangerousto install
them in an unstableposition,
CONNECTIONS
• Switchoff the amplifierpowersupply(OFF).
• Connectthe cablesto the input terminalson the rear of the speaker:Connect
the neutral cable to the @ terminal and the live cable to the @ terminal. Do not
forget that the red input terminal has positive polarity and that the black input
terminalhas negativepolarity.
• Connectthe cablesto the loudspeakeroutletterminalsof the amplifier.Connect
the live cable to the O terminal and the neutral cable to the@terminal.
REMARKS
:
•Check that the cables are securely connected to the terminals. A loose
connectionmay causenotjust intermittentor distortedsound but short-circuiting
andbreakdownof the amplifier.
• If the cables of one of the speakershave been connected with the wrong
polarities, you will find whenlisteningto a stereo recordingthat bass soundsare
weakenedand the stereo effectnormally obtained between the two speakers
does not exist.
