CONTROLS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

@ Telescopic Antenna
Effective on FM and SW, not LW/MW.
For best reception, extend the Telescopic Antenna compietely
and position it in the direction which provides the optimum
reception.
@ Digital Frequency Display (FREQUENCY DISPLAY)
Indicates the tuned frequency as follows:
FM...
adecimal figure in MHz (105.9)
LW...
athree digit figure in kHz (246)
MW ... a three or four digit figure in kHz (1080)
SW...
adecimal figure in MHz (15.000)
© BFO On/Off Switch (BFO)
It turns the BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) on and off. For SSB
or CW reception on SW, set the switch to "'ON"'. When receiving
neither SSB nor CW, be sure to set the switch to "OFF''.

® Band Selector (BAND SELECTOR)
lt selects the desired band (FM, LW, MW, SW1-29)..
© Radio Switch (RADIO)
It turns the receiver on and off.
@ Tuning Control (TUNING)
it tunes in the desired station.
© BFO Pitch Control (BFO PITCH)
Used to obtain clear SSB and CW reception.
Properly turn to SSB or CW signals, set the BFO On/Off Switch
to "ON", and then carefuily rotate this control until the signals
are the most suitable.
© RF Gain Control (.WeMWeSW RF GAIN)
Effective on LW, MW and SW, not FM.
It adjusts the receiver sensitivity for LW, MW or SW {including
SSB and CW) reception. Normally, keep it turned fully clockwise
(MAX). If the received station is sufficiently strong to cause
overlading or distortion in the receiver, slowly rotate this control
counterclockwise until clear sound is obtained.
@) Treble Control (TREBLE)
It adjusts the high or treble tones.
@ Bass Control (BASS)
It adjusts the low or bass tones.
@® Volume Control (VOLUME)
Used to adjust the volume.
@® Headphone Jack (PHONES)
It is used for the connection of headphones. When the head-
phone plug is inserted, the built-in speaker is automatically
disconnected. The sound through the headphones is heard in
monaural, not stereo.
@ Light Switch (LIGHT)
When this switch is pressed and the set is turned on, the Signal/
Tuning Indicator is illuminated.

When
receiving an LW, MW
or SW station, the upper scale
operates as a Signal Strength Meter.
When receiving an FM station, the lower scale operates as a
Tuning Meter.
@ Operation Indicator (OPERATION)
This indicator lights when the set is turned on.
® Bandwidth Selector (BANDWIDTh)
Effective on LW, MW and SW, not FM.
Normaily, set it to ""WIDE"'. Set it to "NARROW" when experi-
encing excessive noise, or interference from an adjacent station.
@® Earphone/External Speaker Jack ( [> > IMP 8( ) ONLY)
Used for the connection of an earphone or an 8{) external
speaker.
@) AC Voltage Selector (VOLTAGE SELECTOR)
(RF-3100LBS only)
Set to your local voitage by turning this selector with a screw-
driver. When operating on AC (household current), make sure
this selector is set to the proper voltage.
@) Radio/Phono Selector (RADIO/PHONO)
(Antenna Selector)
This selector functions as a Radio/Phono
Selector and an
Antenna Selector.
When using the set as a radio, set the selector to "HIGH IMP" or
"LOW IMP"'. At the "LOW IMP" position, the internal antenna
(Telescopic Antenna) is set off, and at the 'HIGH IMP"' position,
itisseton.
RADIO...
Permits audio signals to come out from the DIN
connector
jack.
When
recording
or
amplifying
through another equipment audio materials (radio
programs) from the receiver, set the selector to
"RADIO".
.Permits audio signals to enter the DIN connector
jack.
When. playing through the receiver audio
materials from a tape deck or recorded
player
connected
to the DIN
connector
jack, set the
selector to "PHONO".

Note:
For radio listening, be sure to set this selector to ''RADIO"'.
@ DIN Connector Jack (GQ ao )
May be connected to any external audio-equipment (such as a
tape deck, record player, amplifier, etc.) with a DIN connector.
Select the desired mode of input and output at this jack with the
Radio/Phono Selector.
@ External Antenna Terminals
Effective on SW and FM. If the desired station is too weak or
too distant for the receiver to provide satisfactory reception,
connect an appropriate external antenna (and a ground wire) to
these terminals.
