5 Calibration and ATC Quick-Check
A quick way to check the Grainmaster 900 series and Grainmaster i instruments for
both calibration and correct ATC (Automated Temperature Compensation) operation
without disabling ATC is as follows:
1. Set the instrument to 'wheat'.
2. Take a reading with the 'Quick-Check.'
3. The cell temperature is displayed as follows:

The value of the Quick-Check will be 16.3% at 20°C. For every 1°C above 20°C,

ATC will subtract 0.1%. For every °C below 20°C, ATC will add 0.1%.
The 'Quick-Check' reading is 15.8% at a cell temperature of 25°C. ATC
Example 1:
will have subtracted 0.5% from 16.3% to give 15.8%. The instrument is therefore
calibrated and working correctly.
The 'Quick-check' reading is 16.6% at a cell temperature of 17°C. ATC
Example 2:
will have added 0.3% from 16.3% to give 16.6%. The instrument is therefore
calibrated and working correctly.
Referring to the Calibration Data Chart provided with the instrument, the column
marked "37" gives the values that can be expected from the 'Quick-check' at either
20°C or with the ATC selected OFF. Alternatively, check the cell temperature value
and compute the value as illustrated in the examples above.
