3 Care and Maintenance of the Grainmaster i Instrument
Keep the instrument clean at all times. Is is important that all sample residue is
removed and the electrode thoroughly cleaned, especially after oilseed rape samples.
When not in use, store the Grainmaster i in a stable, dust-free environment and out
of direct sunlight. Remove the battery from the instrument if it is to be stored for
periods of more than four weeks, or when the low battery power symbol appears on
the display. Check the condition of the accessories used with the instrument on a
regular basis and replace them if they become worn or damaged.
4 Tips and Hints on Using the Compressor/Grinder
The Compress/Grinder as one combined unit gives users the convenience of a
consistent grind and uniform sample compression. To obtain the best results, follow
the maintenance instructions as outlined in Section 2 on the previous page along with
the following steps:
Note: Failure to properly compress an adequate sample may lead to inaccurate low
moisture levels being displayed.
1. With the unit held in your hands, engage the
compressor and wind the handle
counterclockwise to fully retract the
compressor piston.
2. When the resistance of the ratchet clutch is
felt, give the handle two firm turns
counterclockwise against the ratchet clutch.
This will lock up the compressor at the top of
its travel.
3. Disengage the compressor drive.
4. Place the grain cup on the instrument.
5. Seat the Compressor/Grinder unit onto the
three lugs.
6. Load a level 10 ml spoonful of sample into the hopper.
7. Turn the handle clockwise to grind the sample, checking that the yellow X on the
top of the unit remains stationary.
8. When the sample is ground, engage the compressor drive and continue to turn the
handle clockwise until the resistance of the ratchet clutch is felt.
9. Rotate the handle one complete turn against the ratchet to ensure good
compression.
Press and hold the ON button and take the moisture reading.
