Appliance Safety Warnings
Note: This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have
been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and
understand the hazards involved.
WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications
provided with this appliance. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "appliance" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) appliance or battery-
operated (cordless) appliance.
1) General Safety
a) Keep appliance away from heat, sharp objects, oil and other hazards.
b) Do not place the cord under carpets or other textile coverings such as clothes or dust
sheets.
c) Do not place the cord in areas where it may pose a trip hazard.
d) Do not use the appliance if the cable or plug is damaged.
e) Do not use the appliance if the switch does not turn it ON and OFF. Any appliance that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
f) Ensure appliance is switched OFF before connecting to mains power supply.
g) Disconnect the plug from the source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable,
from the appliance before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing
appliances. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the appliance
accidentally.
h) Store idle appliances out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the appliance or these instructions to operate the appliance. Appliances are dangerous
in the hands of untrained users.
i) Maintain appliances and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the appliance's operation.
If damaged, have the appliance repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly
maintained appliances.
j) Children must not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be made
by children without supervision.
k) DO NOT use appliance in wet or damp conditions, such as in bathrooms.
l) DO NOT touch appliance switch, controls, cabling, plug or connection with wet hands.
2) Electrical safety
a) Appliance plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) appliances. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets
will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
appliance. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
c) When used in Australia or New Zealand, it is recommended that this appliance is ALWAYS
supplied via Residual Current Device (RCD) with a rated residual current of 30mA or less.
d) Use proper extension cord. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using
an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An
undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.
e) Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. The
electric motor is designed for a single voltage only.
f) The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the cord is damaged the appliance should be scrapped.
3) Service
a) Have your appliance serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the appliance is maintained.
Heat Gun Safety
A fire may result if the tool is not used with care, therefore:
• Never allow any air vents to become blocked, or allow vents to be obscured during use
• Obscured inlet or outlet vents will cause the tool to rapidly overheat
• Parts of this tool will become extremely hot during use. Do not touch any part of the tool, other
than the handle, whilst in use
• Always switch OFF, and allow to cool fully before handling, attempting to change any fittings, or
storing the appliance
• Do not leave this tool unattended whilst switched ON or hot
• Never aim the hot air/heat gun towards people, or animals
• Be careful when using the tool in places where there are combustible materials
• Do not use in presence of an explosive atmosphere
• Be aware that heat may be conducted to combustible materials that are out of sight
• Do not apply to the same place for a long time
• Do not hold the outlet nozzle against any material
• Always keep the outlet nozzle at least 25mm away from the work surface. Do not allow any object
to enter the nozzle when the tool is connected to the power supply
• Do not allow paint, or any other waste, to accumulate on the outlet nozzle or scrapers. Residual
heat may cause waste material to ignite, even after the tool has been switched OFF
• When working on a vertical surface, always aim the heat gun downwards to prevent debris from
falling into the machine
• Use of the hot air/heat gun on certain materials may result in toxic fumes being emitted. Always
allow adequate ventilation. Do not use in confined spaces
• A good quality breathing mask, or respirator, should always be worn when using this tool
• If working on pre-1960 paint finishes, there is an increased chance of encountering lead-based
paint
• Lead is especially toxic to children, pregnant women, or people with high blood pressure. If
working on pre-1960 paint finishes such people should not be allowed near to the work area,
even if provided with appropriate breathing protection
• This tool should never be used in conjunction with chemical paint or varnish strippers. Use of
heat guns with chemical strippers can produce extremely harmful fumes
• Never use this tool near to any kind of fuel tank or gas cylinder
• Always dispose of waste material responsibly
