4. Description and
application
The Stabex MO safety torch has
been particularly designed for
inspection and maintenance du-
ties as well as for security pa-
trols in "Zone 0" hazardous ar-
eas.
The Stabex MO safety torch
features 3 protective measures
against explosion with at least 2
of these protective measures
overlapping each other.
1. Housing assembly: Ex "d"
(flameproof enclosure, with
gap measurements: Thread/
bezel ring-enclosure, and
cylinder/ switch bolt enclo-
sure).
2. Bezel ring with protective
glasses, lampholder, tung-
sten lamp and reflector:
Ex "e" (increased safety).
3. Circuit: Ex "ib"
(category ib intrinsic safety).
The handle end is fitted with a
belt loop.
The rotary switch is built into
the head of the torch housing.

5. Taking into operation
Prior to taking the torch
into operation, check its
correct functioning and
perfect condition in
accordance with these op-
erating instructions and
other applicable regula-
tions!
The Stabex MO safety
torch may be opened out-
side of hazardous areas
only!
Initial use:
1. Unscrew the hexagon socket
screw and open the torch by
turning the bezel ring to the
left.
Thereat the light aperture
shall be directed downwards
(fig. 1/1a/1b).
3. Fit in the dry batteries acc. to
section 7 and to (fig. 2/2a).
4. Close the torch in inverse
order.
Note!
Only battery type 3R12
IEC 86 complies with
temperature class T6, battery
type 3LR12 IEC 86 is
permissable up to tempera-
ture class T4!
Attention
When mounting the bezel
ring, take care that it is
screwed in as far as possible.
Also take care that while
screwing in the hexagon
socket screw, both holes on
either side of the hexagon
socket screw in the bezel ring
are congruent with the blind
holes arranged underneath in
the enclosure.
Check the firm fit of the hexa-
gon socket screw.
Recommendation
While carrying out any servic-
ing, e. g. lamp replacement
(torch being opened), the torch
should be submitted to a visual
check.
7. Maintenance/
Servicing
As far as the maintenance,
servicing and test of elec-
trical apparatus for explosive
atmospheres are concerned,
the respective national regu-
lations in conjunction with the
relevant standards will be ap-
plicable!
