Notes:
eUse two microphones which have the same speci-
fications.
eWhen only one external microphone is used for
recording, to prevent recording of sounds through the
Built-in Microphone for the channel (left or right) to
which the external microphone
is not connected,
connect the erase plug (optional) into the Microphone
Jack not being used.
eWhen recording from a TV or another tape recorder,
the sound
will be recorded
through the Built-in
Microphone corresponding to the side to which the
connection is not made. To prevent this, connect the
erase plug (optional) into the Microphone Jack not
being used.
lf the volume level of the TV or other equipment is too
loud during recording, the recorded sound will be
distorted. Set the volume of the TV or other equip-
ment to the usual listening level.
H Monitoring
The
monitor system
enables
you
to listen, through
the
speakers or headphones to the sound as it is being recorded.
The sound being recorded can be monitored when recording
from the radio.
When
recording from the Built-in Microphones or a sound
source connected to the Microphone Jacks, the sound being
recorded cannot be monitored.
m@ Erasure of Recordings
When recording, previously recorded signals on the tape will
be erased
automatically.
To erase
a tape
without
re-
recording, use the following procedure.
1) Connect two erase plugs (optional) to the Microphone
Jacks.
2) Set the Function Selector to "TAPE/[OFF]".
3) Depress the Record Button.
@ Automatic radio power turn-off
("Sleep" function)
The Automatic Stop System can be used as a "timer" to
conveniently turn off the electric power at the desired time
even though the listener may fall asleep.
This system can be used for listening to the radio and
recording radio broadcasts.
1) Follow
the procedure
described
in steps
(1)-(2)
of
"Recording
Radio Broadcasts",
and set the Function
Selector to "SLEEP".
2) eListening to the radio
Depress the Playback Button to begin playback with no
tape sound.
Recording radio broadcasts
Depress the Record Button to begin recording.
3) The radio broadcasts will be heard while the tape is
moving. When the tape reaches its end, the Automatic-
Stop Mechanism functions to release the Playback Button
(or the Playback and Record Buttons) and the electric
power is automatically turned off.

MAINTENANCE
The head assembly,
capstan,
and pressure
roller are in
constant contact with the tape. If these parts are dirty, the
sound quality will be impaired. Periodically, clean these parts
as shown.
1) Open the Cassette Compartment cover by depressing the
Stop/Eject Button.
2) Depress
the Record
Button
while pushing
the Erase-
Prevention
Lever
(see the figure) located
inside the
Cassette Compartment.
The Recording/Playback
Head, Erase Heads, Capstan
and the Pressure Roller can be seen. Clean them with a
cotton swab, or a piece of wood with a soft cloth wound
around it.

elf the heads are extremely dirty, clean them with a
soft cloth dampened with a little alcohol.
©Do not bring metal articles or magnetic material, such
as a screwdriver, near the head assembly.
Do
not clean the plastic cabinet with benzine or
thinner. Clean it with a solution of soap and water.
