Operating Instructions for Profi Micro Gyro
Thank you for purchasing the Profi Micro Gyro with Heading Lock. One major design feature was to ensure easy
operation. Its small size was possible by using micro processor and digital technology.
Features of the Gyro
• Two modes of operation: Standard and Heading Lock Mode
• The gyro sensitivity can be adjusted from your transmitter via an additional channel, or if not available through
the potentiometer on the gyro itself.
Servo Selection and Servo Speed
Best results are accomplished with fast servos. We recommend the use of the Lexors 230 Servo. Slower servos will
adversely affect the performance of the gyro.
Preparation of the Helicopter and Gyro Installation
For best results your helicopter needs to have a play free and easy moving tail control linkage. Also the sliding sleeve
of your tail rotor shaft should move freely, the blade holders must move freely and without any play (even under load).
If necessary replace the ball bearings, or thoroughly clean all moving parts and lubricate them.
Mounting the GyroYou may mount the gyro lengthwise, crosswise or diagonally. Always make sure that the gyros axis
of rotation is parallel to the main rotor axis. Chose the mounting location to avoid damage to the servo wire caused
by the helicopter mechanics.
Mount the gyro by using the included double face tape. Replacement tape strips are available at your local hobby
shop or directly from Ikarus. To ensure best adhesion make sure the surfaces are free of grease and dust. Place the
gyro at a vibration free location. To reverse the gyro direction simply turn it by 180 degree (on the head).
Transmitter Adjustments and Tail Rotor Linkage
Based on our experience, main problems are generated by programming the transmitter wrong, by the tail rotor
linkage, servo and even servo horn selection. Below we will describe the correct approach to a problem free opera-
tion. In addition you should have your radio and helicopter instructions handy or be familiar with them to leave no
questions open.
Programming your Transmitter
Switch on the transmitter and change the settings for the tail rotor channel and gyro sensitivity this way:
• Set trim to neutral (if necessary reset the tail rotor channel and gyro sensitivity)
• Make the following adjustment before connecting the gyro to the servo! Because if the gyro is linked in between,
you will change via ATV the rotational rate and not the servo throw!
Set the servo throw in both directions in the ATV menu (servo throw adjustment) to 100% for the tail rotor function.
You will need this for the correct servo lever selection. Now adjust the tail rotor linkage. Make sure the servo can
operate the full throw without any mechanical limitations. Check also that the Revo Mix (mixer for the static tail rotor
compensation) and the ATS Mix (dynamic tail rotor compensation) are switched off.
Several transmitters activate the Gyro Fade Out (Pilot Authority Mix). This feature has to be switched off also!
Neutral Position
• While the servo trim and the transmitter control stick are in center position, the tail rotor servo lever direction has
to be perpendicular to the pushrod.
