For best results with some mono equipment it may
be necessary to use adaptor
294.
If recording with the GRUNDIG microphone GDM
308 mono,
stop/
start can be remotely controlled
from the microphone. Only the motor will switch
off. After switching back on, wait for 1 or 2 sec-
onds until the motor has reached the correct
speed.
With other microphones, we recommend
you use wind shield 404 for record ing in the open
air or if you speak close to the microphone.
Short Interruptions
You may temporarily stop the tape for a short
time during recording (eg
:
to remove an an-
nouncement during musical transmissions) and
during playback by pressing the pause key
@
.
Press key
@
again to restart
tape.
Stop and Removal of Cassette
At the end of a recording press the stop key
(Z).
The record key
@
and the start key
@
will be re-
leased.
If you now depress the cassette button
@,
the cassette compartment lid
@
w ill open and
you may either turn over the cassette for further
recording or take it out and replace it by a fresh
one.
Automatic Stop at the End of Tape
At the end of a cassette al I function keys are re-
leased (except pause) and the tape
stopped.
Erasure and Protection Against Accldental Erasure
As you record
,
the previous recording will .be
erased automatically. Commercially recorded tape
cassettes lock the recording button
@
and so
protect the tape from accidental
erasure.
You can
safeguard your own recordings if you break off
the appropriate safety tab situated in the opening
directly behind the index A or B at the back of
the cassette
.
Each track can be protected sepa-

rately. Should you want to erase and re-record a
track stick some "Sellotape" or equivalent over
the opening.
With chromium dioxide cassettes only the outer
half of the slot must be covered
.
Fast Winding of Tape
To listen to a recording you will have to rewind
the tape to the
Sitar!.
But if you wish to select a
certain section from a full tape or leave a section
out during playback, you will have to wind the
tape
on.
To do this press rewind key
@)
or the
forward wind key
@.
The buttons lock and can be
released by pressing stop button
(Z).

the radio

amplifier to stereo operation, slide

Volume and tone are controlled on
the
radio/
amplifier.
If
you are replaying a mono
cassette,
leave the radio
/
amplifier switched to
stereo as this will improve the
performance.
It may be necessary to used adaptor 294 when
replaying via a mono
radio/
amplifier.
Care of Tapes
Tape should never be left on top of central heat-
ing radiators or near any other source of heat as
thi
s
will
disto
rt th
e
tape and render it
useless.
Cassettes
not in
use
should always be stored in
their
cases to
prevent the tape becoming con-
taminated with du st wh ich can damage the delicate
mechanism of your machine. To lessen the likeli-
hood of loose looped tape in the cassette, tighten
the tape by rewinding so that no loose layer of
tape can be seen
.
Maintenance
The design of this recorder will guarantee long
operation without
maintenance.
Should, however,
any fault
occur,
please consult your
dealer.
You
may clean the rubber roller and the front of the
tape heads from time to time when they become
contaminated by deposits of oxide and foreign
matter. To do this open the cassette compartment
lid
@
and press the start key
@.
Clean only with
methylated spirits and a piece of soft non-fluffy
cloth
.
Particularly stubborn deposits may be re-
moved with the aid of a matchstick. Under no
circumstances should the head surfaces be touch-
ed with a metallic or other hard instrument as this
will lead to
damage.
After cleaning you must switch to stop (press key
(Z))
before a cassette can be inserted and the cas-
sette compartment
@
closed.
The cleaning procedure becomes even simpler
when
using
GRUNDIG
cleaning
cassette 461
.
Simply insert the cassette and let the tape run
in replay
(approx.
5
minutes).
Use only a soft cloth to clean the case. Abrasive
polishes and cleaners may damage the
surface.
Important: This unit must not be exposed to tem-
peratures above 70
°
as this can cause serious
damage.
Remember that this temperature can be
exceeded on the rear window shelf of a motor
car exposed to strong
sunlight.
This product must never be exposed to rain or
moisture.
