Description
3.1
Scope
The GEL 293encoders are used for the measuring of rotational movements and posi-
tions on machines and vehicles. They are highly resistant to harsh environmental con-
ditions and are particularly resistant to the effects of condensation and spray. They
operate over a wide temperature range from 0 °C up to +70 °C or even, as an option,
from -20 °C up to +85 °C
Various rectangular signals are output (see signal patterns below) which provide an
clear direction detection and, in case of using inverse signals, a high data reliability.
Additionally, an optional reference pulse can be used for calibrating the drive, and an
optional tachometer supplies a speed-dependent current.
Supply voltage is either 5 VDC (for TTL output level) or 10 to 30 VDC (for HTL output
level) depending on the signal pattern used.
Optional designs include a condensed-water outlet or other additional protection meas-
ures against moisture and vibration for harsh environmental conditions.
3.2
Design
The encoders contain

a contactless magnetic scanning system (magnetic field sensor)
●
a target wheel serving as measuring scale
●
a hollow shaft for 16 mm shafts including a very flexible coupling with a high torsional
resistance
●
a radial connector or cable outlet.
