The individual components listed above are not
a source of interference emission as defined by
EMC Directive 89/336/EEC. The Installation
and Operating Instructions must be carefully
read and the provisions of the EMC Directive
complied with.
Standards and Regulations
ROBA-stop
®
brakes comply with the national
standard NORM DIN VDE 0580/10.94 and in
compliance with the Low Voltage Directive
73/23/EEC.
Class of protection I.
Enclosure IP 54 (IP 67)
Insulation class F (up to 155°C) for coil, potting
compound and litz wires.
Safety instructions
Caution! Danger to life if live exposed cables
and components are touched.
To avoid serious bodily harm and material dam-
age only qualified and trained staff may work on
the equipment.
Important! Prior to the selection, installation,
commissioning and maintenance of the equip-
ment the information and instructions provided
in the Catalog and the Installation and Operat-
ing Instructions must be carefully read and
strictly followed.
Failure to observe the safety instructions may
cause serious bodily harm. Improper applica-
tion of the technical instructions will result in
equipment failure and material damage which
are not warranted.
Therefore please observe the following!
-
Connect the supply voltage in accordance
with the wiring diagram.
-
Never carry out any assembly, maintenance
or repair work on energized equipment.
-
Make sure that supply cables are not subject
to mechanical tension.
-
Check all current-carrying components for
possible damage before commissioning
them.
-
Protect
current-carrying
against possible contact with water.
Necessary protective measures to be taken
by the user:
-
Cover moving and rotating parts to avoid in-
juries from getting crushed or caught in the
equipment.
-
Install a conductive connection between the
magnetic part and the protective earth con-
ductor to protect against electric shock. Pro-
tection class I.
-
Install burn-out elements to protect against
high inductive switch-off peaks.
Definitions
(Based on DIN VDE 0580/10.94)
Brake torque
(= switching torque) is the torque effective in
the shaft assembly with slipping brake at a slip
speed of 1 m/s related to the mean friction ra-
dius.
The steady-state temperature is reached
when the equipment has warmed up to its op-
erating temperature. This temperature is the
sum of the determined overtemperature and
the reference temperature. Reference tem-
perature is an ambient temperature of 35°C.
Protection class I means that in a piece of
equipment protection against shock currents is
provided not only by the basic insulation. Pro-
tection in the case of an equipment fault is pro-
vided by the direct connection of conductive
magnetic parts, which are live in the event of a
fault, to the protective earth conductor or that
these parts have contact with conductive con-
traction parts which themselves are directly
connected to the protective earth conductor.
Thus, should the basic insulation fail, no imper-
missibly high shock voltages will be present.
The load factor is the relationship between du-
ty factor and cycle time in percent (% ED).
Equipment description
Catalog values are guide values which may dif-
fer in individual cases. When selecting the
equipment factors such as installation condi-
tions, brake torque variations, permissible fric-
tion work, run-in behavior, wear and tear and
ambient conditions must be coordinated with
the equipment manufacturer.
The user's mounting and connecting dimen-
sions must match those of the equipment.

ROBA-stop
®
brakes are designed for dry run-
ning.
The brake torque depends on the run-in condi-
tion of the brake in each case.
If the friction lining comes into contact with oil,
grease or similar substances the brake torque
may reduce considerably.
When the equipment is switched off the mutu-
al induction in the magnetic coils may cause
voltage peaks which, in extreme cases, may
cause damage to the equipment. We therefore
recommend to dampen these overvoltages.
The surfaces of ROBA-stop
®
tected against corrosion. When used under ex-
treme ambient conditions or outdoors with di-
rect exposure to the elements additional pro-
tective measures are required, though.
The connecting cables or connecting litz wires
of couplings and brakes are provided with a sil-
icone-base sheath, which is not resistant to all
substances. If contact with chemicals is antic-
ipated, the sheath's resistance to these chem-
icals must be checked.
Couplings and brakes are designed for a load
factor of 100% ED.
