Installation and Operating Instructions
Motor adapter with integrated fail-safe power brake
en
1.
General information
The motor adapter integrates the connection of
motor shaft and gear unit input shaft via a
clamping coupling and the downstream fail-
safe power brake.
1.1
Clamp coupling
The connection of coupling and motor shaft is
friction-locked via a clamping hub (20) with
clamping ring (40). Depending on the allocation
of motor shaft (M) and coupling size the clamp-
ing hub is provided with an additional slotted
clamping sleeve (50). The coupling operates ab-
solutely free of backlash and does not require
any maintenance. The (servo) motors should
preferably have a smooth shaft (without key).
Standard rotational accuracy, axial run-out and
concentricity values to DIN 42955-N for motor
shaft end and motor mounting flange suffices.
Dimensional tolerances: The centering di-
ameter at the motor flange must be pro-
duced to tolerance ISO j
, the motor shaft to
6
ISO k
.

1. 2
Fail-safe power brake
The electromagnetically operated double-disc
fail-to-safety brake is applied by spring force
when the system is de-energized and released
by an electromagnetic DC coil. The DC coil is
supplied directly from the Powerbox brake rec-
tifier installed in the control cabinet. Please ob-
serve the wiring diagram.
2.
Motor mounting
-
Carefully degrease the motor shaft, the bore
hole of the coupling hub and the clamping
sleeve supplied (as applicable).
-
Remove the plug from the assembly hole
(30) of the adapter housing.
-
Place the motor onto the adapter housing.
Important: The motor shaft must be intro-
duced centrically into the clamping hub (20)
or clamping sleeve (50). Do not introduce
canted!
-
Screw the motor to the adapter housing.
-
Tighten the greased clamping screw (41) at
the clamping ring. To do this, enter the ex-
tension piece of the torque spanner through
the assembly hole (30). Tightening torque

as per table.
A
-
Reclose the assembly hole (30) with the
plug.

5.
Air gap adjustment
The design does not allow for air gap adjust-
ment.
The air gap is checked with a feeler gauge
through the lateral hole (closed with a plug) af-
ter every 1000 operating hours or if deviations
in positioning are observed.
When the maximum permissible air gap is
achieved (see table) the rotor must be replaced.
When the rotor is replaced the friction lining of
the pressure plate and the intermediate flange
must be checked and replaced if worn exces-
sively.
In addition, the brake must be checked for any
traces of lubricant.
Important! The motor, brake and any other ac-
cessories must be de-energized, secured and
provided with locking protection (vertical load,
equipment parts etc.)!
