Setting
Standard setting (to max. sensitivity)
1. Position the emitter and receiver at the desired
distance.
2. Set receiver potentiometer to max. sensitivity (full
clockwise).
3. Determine the on and off point of the output (yellow
LED): move the emitter or receiver in several directions
so that the yellow LED of the receiver switches on and
then back off.
⇒ Each switching state change indicates one
switchpoint.
4. Mount the moved sensor in the middle of the
determined switchpoints.
⇒ The sensors are optimally aligned when the yellow
LED is continuously on to indicate reliable function.
Fine adjustment to detect small objects
1. Perform the standard setting.
2. Turn the receiver potentiometer counterclockwise until
the yellow LED of the receiver goes out.
⇒ The emitter is no longer recognized.
3. Slowly turn the potentiometer clockwise until the yellow
LED turns on.
⇒ The emitter is recognized again.
Excess gain
The excess gain is a unitless factor which indicates how
much more light reaches the receiver than is necessary for
function of the sensor. The larger the factor, the more
stable the sensor operates. For applications in dirty sur-
roundings a greater excess gain is needed than under
laboratory conditions. The maximum range of the sensor
should therefore not always be used.
