If the signal is not repeated when you move the search coil
several times over the object, it is presumably worthless metal.
False signals can result from different causes. For example a
dirty ground, electrical interference or over longer distances
scattered pieces of metal can cause erroneous signals. False
signals are usually interrupted and non repeatable.
Notes:
Do not test the metal detector inside a building on the floor, since
most buildings have metal of some kind in the walls and ceilings.
This may interfere with the objects you are testing.
Do not move the metal detector like a pendulum. The distance of
the search coil to the ground should not change.

Setting up Discrimination

Discrimination is the detector's ability to distinguish between
different types of metal. The detector's
determines whether the detector will distinguish between different
types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
First turn the discrimination control DISC (2) to the middle position.
Adjust the discrimination setting as you use the metal detector, until
it reaches the ideal position. If discrimination is set up too high, the
sensitivity of the detector increases with respect to large aluminium
or gold nuggets. Smaller items of value such as coins and rings
could be overlooked.
Notes:
Each time the metal detector is used in a different area,
discrimination should be re-adjusted. Each search location
presents new challenges.
Calibrate the metal detector each time after setting up a new
discrimination value (see chapter: Tuning / Calibration).
