For Places Inside Your Home:
Activity #1: I See You!
When you see your dog on their
bed or in their kennel, narrate what
they're doing . For example: when I was
working on location names with Stella,
I would say "Stella bed. Bed bed.
Stella bed" a few times verbally and
with her buttons whenever she walked
to her bed. Labeling what's already
happening is a powerful way to teach
within natural contexts!
Activity #2: Learning Through Play!
1. Start playing with your dog and make sure they're interested in the toy
you have.
2. Hold the toy for a few seconds. Then, both verbally and with your dog's
button, model "bed."
3. Toss the toy onto your dog's bed.
4. Keep saying "bed" as your dog retrieves the toy from their bed.
5. Repeat a few times in a row to help your dog learn the pattern.
You can play the same game with the words "upstairs" or "downstairs" and
toss your dog's toy up or down the staircase. The more fun you're having
together while teaching, the more interested your dog will be!
