Introduction
Welcome! I'm excited to help you introduce your dog to more advanced
communication concepts. In this set, we're helping dogs talk about locations!
Location words can be extremely beneficial for your dog's communication.
These concepts are typically highly motivating, exciting for your dog, and
easy to learn. Additionally, locations are challenging
to communicate solely with a dog's gestures,
vocalizations, or body language. For example, if your
dog is whining near the door, how do you know if
they need to go to the bathroom, or just want to take
a walk, go to the park, or come with you to the store?
Location words can help your dog communicate
more fully and can help us understand exactly what
our furry friend is thinking about while making fewer
assumptions along the way.
How to Use:
•
Press and hold the red button on
the side of the main button.
•
Wait for the beep and then record
your word.
•
Release the red button.
You will hear a beep again.
•
Tap the main button and listen to
your word!
When to Introduce Locations
When your dog uses multiple words independently, locations can help them
become much more specific in their communication at home and out of the
house. Since locations outside of the home typically require some travel time,
they make a great addition after your dog masters basic words.

After you've programmed your
buttons with some location words
your dog might need, follow along
with these activities to help them
take the next step on their
communication journey!
How to Choose: Which Locations to Program?
Are there places your dog loves to visit that you have to spell out when
talking about them? If you say "park" or "daycare," does your dog become
extremely excited? These are the locations to choose! Start with locations
your dog visits regularly and enjoys. We want to give our dogs the
opportunity to say words that they want to say.
Places to Include from the Start
The first step to teaching
locations is programming your
buttons with one or two places
you bring your dog regularly,
such as the park, dog beach,
daycare, or a friend's house.
You can also include a word
for your own home such as
"home" or "inside."
Beginning with multiple
locations at once will help
your dog learn that each word
has a different meaning, and
doesn't cover all of the places
you go together. To help you
get started, use the included
stickers to add a visual
representation of some of your
dog's favorite places.
