1 Introduction
Dear Customer!
Thank you for purchasing an AKG product.
Please take a few minutes to read the instructions
below carefully before operating the equipment.
Please keep the Manual for future reference.
2 Safety and Environment
2.1 Safety
1. Do not spill any liquids on the equipment and do not
drop any objects through the ventilation slots in the
equipment.
2. The equipment may be used in dry rooms only.
3. The equipment may be opened, serviced, and
repaired by authorized personnel only. The equip-
ment contains no user-serviceable parts.
4. Before connecting the equipment to power, check
that the AC mains voltage stated on the supplied AC
adapter is identical to the AC mains voltage avail-
able where you will use the equipment.
5. To power the equipment, use the supplied AC adap-
ter with its 12 VDC output only. Using adapters
with an AC output and/or a different output voltage
may cause serious damage to the unit.
6. If any solid object or liquid penetrates into the
equipment, shut down the sound system immedia-
tely. Disconnect the AC adapter from the power
outlet immediately and have the equipment checked
by AKG service personnel.
7. Prior to storing the transmitter without using it for
a long period of time, disconnect the AC adapter
from the power outlet. Please note that as long
as the AC adapter is plugged into a power outlet,
the transmitter will not be completely separated
from power when you switch it off.
8. Do not place the equipment near heat sources
such as radiators, heating ducts, or amplifiers,
etc. and do not expose it to direct sunlight,
excessive dust, moisture, rain, mechanical
vibrations, or shock.
9. Clean the equipment with a moistened (not wet)
cloth only. Be sure to disconnect the AC adapter
from the power outlet before cleaning the equip-
ment! Never use caustic or scouring cleaners
or cleaning agents containing alcohol or solvents
since these may damage the enamel and plastic
parts.

10. Use the equipment for the applications described
in this manual only. AKG cannot accept any liability
for damages resulting from improper handling or
misuse.
2.2 Environment
1. The AC adapter will draw a small amount of current
even when the equipment is switched off. To save
energy, disconnect the AC adapter from the power
outlet if you will leave the equipment unused for a
long period of time.
2. When scrapping the equipment, separate the case,
circuit boards, and cables, and dispose of all
components in accordance with local waste dis-
posal rules.
3. The packaging of the equipment is recyclabe.
To dispose of the packaging, make sure to use a
collection/recycling system provided for that
purpose and observe local legislation relating to

4 Placing the Transmitter

Refer to fig. 1.
The T 216 AFC transmitter is a radio frequency
device conforming to the related strict European
standards. Due to physical effects that are not rela-
ted to the quality of the product, devices emitting
very high interference radiation may, however, affect
the signal received by the headphones.
To ensure the best possible reception, do not place
your T 216 AFC transmitter near radio equipment,
mobile phones, or directly above the picture tube of
a TV set or computer monitor.
5 Connecting
the Transmitter
> ATTENTION: Check that the AC mains voltage
stated on the AC adapter is identical with the AC
mains voltage in your area. Operating the AC
adapter off a different AC mains voltage may
damage the unit.
Refer to fig. 2 A: audio source with headphone
output („ " or „PHONES")
fig. 2 B: audio source with „LINE OUT" or
„REC OUT" jacks
fig. 2 C: audio source with SCART connector
(A > SCART adapter)
1. Before connecting the transmitter to your audio
source (TV set, radio, hi-fi system, etc.), switch
power to the audio source off.
2. Connect the transmitter to your audio source using
the supplied AK 2 connecting cable (white = left-
hand channel, red = right-hand channel).
3. Plug the cable on the supplied AC adapter into the
DC 12 V jack on the transmitter rear panel.
4. Plug the AC adapter into a convenient power outlet.
6 Charging Battery Packs
Before you can use the headphones, you will need
to charge the battery pack inside the headphones.
We recommend charging the supplied replacement
battery pack at the same time.
Refer to fig. 3:
1. Place the headphones (1) on the transmitter (2).
2. Insert the supplied replacement battery pack (3)
into one of the charging slots in the transmitter
side panels. The charging process will start auto
matically. The appropriate indicator LED(s) (4a or
4b for the replacement battery packs, 4c for the
battery pack inside the headphones) will be lit red.
3. The two battery packs will be fully charged in
approx. four hours. The indicator LEDs (4) will
remain lit. Remove the headphones from the
transmitter and all battery packs from the char-
ging slots. The battery packs are not suited for
permanent charging.
> NOTE: The charging slots on the transmitter
allow you to charge two battery packs along with
the battery pack inside the headphones (see fig.
3/1).
7 Powering Up
Before switching power to your system on, please note:
> Using headphones at high volume levels, parti-
cularly for extended periods of time, may damage
your hearing.
> Operating switches on your hi-fi system or connec-
ting the transmitter to your audio source may
cause clicks, which at high volume settings may
affect your hearing. Therefore, be sure to set the
volume control on the headphones to minimum (see
fig. 5) before switching between different sources
(tuner, turntable, CD player, etc.) or connecting
the transmitter.
> Interference caused by other users of the same
frequency band is beyond AKG's control.
1. Remove the headphones from the transmitter.
2. Switch power to your audio source (and/or hi-fi
system) on.
3. The transmitter will switch on automatically.
The green transmitter status LED will be lit.
If a battery pack is being charged inside the trans-
mitter, the appropriate charging LED will remain
lit red.
> NOTE: If no signal arrives at the transmitter
input for five minutes, the transmitter will
switch off automatically and the green trans-
mitter status LED will go out.4.
