5.2 Testing the Emergency Stop Switch

It is imperative for you to test the emergency stop switch of the CNC machine before using the product. Be sure that
you can pull the power plug, in case the emergency stop does not work as expected. Start a job (see „5.6 Starting a Test
Job") and then instantly press the emergency stop switch of the CNC machine. The machine and the milling motor have
to stop in an instant. Never use the milling motor or CNC machine, if the emergency stop switch fails to work. The switch
has to be capable of stopping the entire machine in case of an emergency! A power tool which cannot be stopped by the
emergency stop switch is to be considered as danger and has to be repaired.
When you engage the emergency stop switch, UCCNC will
offer visual feedback by a blinking RESET button. After de-
activating the emergency stop switch you additionally have to
click the RESET button in order to redeploy the CNC into an
operational state.
When you engage the emergency stop switch, WinPC-NC will
offer visual feedback by displaying a red notice in the status
bar. After releasing the emergency stop switch your system
will return to an operational state.

5.3 Overload Protection

To protect the milling motor from damage, the parameters current, speed and temperature are monitored. If necessary
the motor will shut itself down. Triggering the overload protection can lead to your end mill, workpiece or even the gantry
being damaged. To alarm the user prior to possible damage, the setting wheel will illuminate and display light signals
which encode the remaining run time before automatic shutdown. After the overload protection has been triggered, the
main switch has to be first switched OFF
and then ON again to re-enable the mill-
ing motor. If you notice light signals –
assuming your remaining working time
exceeds the remaining run time of the
milling motor – you should adjust your
working parameters like the feed or in-
feed. Always assume the lower value of
remaining run time. If in doubt about the remaining run time, do not hesitate to actuate the emergency stop switch to
avoid damage.
