5.0 SOME POSSIBLE PROBLEMS

1.
Burning through thin metal. On very thin sheet eg-car bodywork, even the
lowest amperage setting will be too fierce. In this case you can still use your
welder but you will need a brazing kit which is available from your stockist.
2.
Machine cuts out frequently. This is probably caused by a sticking electrode.
Even one sticking electrode could cause the machine to cut out for up ten
minutes. After this time it should be ready to use again.
3.
Difficulty in striking an arc can be experienced if the electrode is damp. Heat
o
it up to 60
4.
Difficulty in striking an arc can be experienced if you use the wrong type of
rod. Only ACID or RUTILE electrode can be used with these machines.
BASIC electrodes are unsuitable for these machines.

6.0 VARIOUS WELDING SYSTEMS

1.
For metal up to 7 mm thick,
keep pieces 2-3 mm apart.
A second run can go under-
neath for extra strenght.
See illustration.
2.
For thicknesses up to 30
mm a single butt joint is
necessary, filling up the
space with several layers
of weld.
See illustration.
3.
Over 30 mm you will need
a double "V" butt joint
and again fill up the
space.
See illustration.

7.0 GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS

ELECTRODE HOLDER
Use only electrodes as stated in
chapter 4.0.
EARTH CLAMP
This must be clamped to the work-
piece. The machine will not work
unless in contact with bare metal.
