power supply after use.
3.0 PREPARATION
1. Ensure the machine is turned off.
2. Join the earth clamp to the workpiece to be welded. Never join the clamp to a
wooden bench or painted surface, in such cases there would be no current
induction.
3. The other end of the earth lead should be connected to the machine. This
should already be done.
4. Insert the electrode into the electrode holder. Ensure there is good connection,
the other end should be connected to the machine. Ensure welding surfaces
are kept clean.
5. Set amperage by regulating control wheel according to visual scale relating to
amperage/electrode diameter. This is shown on the front or side of the
machine.
3.1 YOU ARE NOW READY TO WELD
Switch on only when you are ready to start welding and the electrode is in position.
Practice on scrap metal first.
Tap the electrode lightly to strike arc and maintain a steady gap thereafter of about
2 mm between the end of the electrode and the metal being welded. Withdraw
with a clean movement at the end of the run.
You will notice a slight tendency to pull to the right. A few minutes practice will
ensure that you get used to this and compensate when doing a proper job.
If the electrode sticks you may be holding it too closely. Pull sharply to the left and
right to free it. After welding chip off slag with chipping hammer. You should wear
goggles when doing this.

4.0 IMPORTANT - THERMOSTAT CONTROL

Your welder is cooled by the circulation of air. If you use the machine with 16
gauge (1.5 mm rods) it will operate continuously. As larger diameter rods are used
you will experience the current being temporarily shut off. This is to protect your
transformer from overheating. Obviously the larger the rod the more current and
consequently the hotter the machine becomes.
The table below shows the number of electrodes which you can weld per hour.
The welder will produce up to 210 amps on 230 V power supply, depending on
welder size. When using larger electrodes or for better performance use 400 V 3-
phase. The position of the switch should be changed. Consult a qualified
electrician.
