Complexity of a bond
Integrating a fitting into the side of furniture
requires a permanent and secure bond which
is dependent on numerous factors. These
factors are beyond Hettich's control. For this
reason, the fabricator must always take into
consideration the factors outlined below by
way of example.
Variety of materials for furniture sides
The materials that are bonded in furniture
making include solid wood, MDF, chipboard
and many others. These have different
mechanical properties. For this reason, the
material selected must ensure the structural
integrity of furniture at all times.
Selecting an appropriate adhesive is also
essential for the particular material pair/
surface. Under the influence of climate, for
example, some materials expand more than
others.
Bonding method
Depending on the adhesive chosen, a suitable
gluing method must be applied correctly. For
example, it is important to make sure that
the bonding surfaces are clean and to apply
adhesives at the correct temperatures.

Long term stability of the bond
Influencing factors, such as temperature,
humidity, excessive static or dynamic loads
(e.g. from overly heavy doors) can in the long
run reduce the stability of a bond as well as
that of the remaining side panel material. The
fabricator must therefore assess the resultant
residual risk of a bond failing.
Borderline constructions must be avoided.
