tial bonding of the system in order to prevent the electrostatic overloading of the metal parts. The ATEX
supplementary sheet must be observed.

Commissioning / functional testing
Activate the supply voltage for the connected control device and check the equipment switch points to
see if they work. The functional testing of the RCS and RCK models can also be carried out manually on
disassembled equipment by moving the float. Please make sure that no unintended process cycles are
triggered during the functional testing. The operator is responsible for carrying out functional testing or
a visual inspection at regular intervals.

Maintenance and disposal
When the reed sensors are used as intended, they function without needing any maintenance work to be
carried out and without incurring any wear and tear. To ensure proper functionality, we recommend that
the sensor undergoes a visual inspection as part of the inspection being carried out on the system. Only
original parts may be used for repairs and maintenance work.
The equipment must be disposed of in accordance with the applicable regional and national directives and
guidelines. There may be media residue on the equipment upon its disposal. The operator is responsible for
the way in which the equipment is disposed of.

11 Annex – explosion protection of the RCK-EX... and RCS-EX... models
This section supplements these instructions with matters that directly concern explosion protection. All of the
instructions set out in other sections also apply.
These models meet the international "Ex i" intrinsic safety requirements in accordance with IEC and EN
60079-0 and 60079-1 1, as certified. They are provided with the following designations: Ex ia IIC T6–T4
Ga and Ex ib IIIC Ta Db.
These designations can be broken down as follows:
Intrinsic safety for zone 0
ia
All gas groups and vapours that cause spark ignition
IIC
All temperature classes possible
T6...T4
Equipment protection level (EPL) for zone 0
Ga
Intrinsic safety for zone 21
ib
All dusts and lint
IIIC
Self-heating negligible
Ta
Equipment protection level (EPL) for zone 21
Db
Zone 0 may be inside and outside the container. Zone 21 may only be outside the container.
During installation, the IEC and EN 60079-14 standard must be observed in addition to these operating
instructions.
If hazardous effects are to be expected in the event of lightning strikes, countermeasures that are not
described in these instructions are required.
