Maintenance and care

Due to the resulting vortex effect, the GRAF VS-Control vortex flow control shafts are very low-
maintenance.
As a rule it is sufficient to carry out a visual inspection after a particularly heavy rainfall event.
With small drain diameters (< 150 mm) an additional visual inspection every 6 month is recommended.
For greater drilling every 12 month should be sufficient.
If blockages are detected, especially with small drain diameters, they can be removed with the aid of a
garden hose or an iron rod (see also ①).
Note:
By removing the orifice the shaft is also suitable as access point in order to inspect the sub-
sequent piping to the stormwater manhole.
After the inspection the orifice has to be placed again level and horizontally in the vortex
flow control shaft body (see also ② and ③).

To get a better view into the shaft, it is
advisable to use a lamp or light.
Tenacious blockages may be pierced
with an iron rod or similar.
After removing the blockage or the ori-
fice, it must be ensured again that the
orifice lies level and horizontally in the
vortex flow control shaft body.
