6.2 Recoil and relevant safety information:
Recoil is a sudden reaction caused by a blocked or entangled rotating accessory, such as
a grinding disc, backup pad or wire brush, etc. Blocking or entangling leads to an abrupt
stop of the rotating accessory. This causes the uncontrolled electric tool to be accelerated
against the rotational direction of the accessory at the blockage point. If, for example, a
grinding disc becomes entangled or blocked inside the workpiece, the edge of the grind-
ing disc that cuts into the workpiece can get caught which might lead to a breakout of the
grinding disc or cause a recoil. The grinding disc will then move either towards or away
from the operator, depending on the rotational direction of the disc at the blockage point.
The grinding disc may also break.
Recoil is the result of faulty or improper use of the electrical tool. It can only be prevented by
taking suitable protective measures, as described below.
Hold the power tool firmly and assume a stable position with your body and arms, in
which you are able to absorb the recoil forces. Always use the additional handle, if
available, for maximum control over recoil or reaction forces during startup.
The operator can stay in control over recoil and reaction forces by taking suitable
protective measures.
Never place your hands near the rotating accessory.
In the event of a recoil, the accessory may cause injury to your hands.
Keep your body away from the direction in which the electric tool will be propelled in the
event of a recoil. A recoil will drive the electrical tool drive the rotational direction of the
grinding disc at the blockage point.
Work with particular care around edges and sharp corners, etc. Do not allow the accessory
to become jammed or to rebound off the workpiece.
The rotating accessory has a tendency to become jammed on edges and sharp corners
and when it rebounds off the workpiece. This may result in loss of control or recoil.
Do not use a chainsaw blade or serrated saw blade. These accessories frequently cause
recoil or loss of control over the electric tool.
6.3 Special safety information for sanding:
Do not use oversized sandpaper, but follow the manufacturer specifications for sandpaper
size. Sandpaper that protrudes beyond the backup pad may cause injury, as well as
blockages, tearing of the sandpaper or recoil.
6.4 Special safety information for polishing:
Do not allow any loose parts of the polishing cover, especially fastening strings.
Trim or tuck away any fastening strings. Loose fastening strings may catch your fingers or
become entangled with the workpiece.
6.5 Special safety information for working with wire brushes:
Please note that the wire brush will lose pieces of wire, even during normal use.
Do not place the wires under excessive pressure. Flying wire pieces can easily get into
clothing and/or skin.
If a protective cover is recommended, prevent the wire brush from coming into contact
with it. Plate brushes and cup brushes can increase in diameter when pressure and cen-
trifugal forge are applied.
