Connection
Turn on your computer and wait until the operating system has finished loading.
Connect the card reader with a free USB port on your computer or on a USB hub using the
USB cable provided. The drivers are already included in Windows (minimum requirement
Windows ME). Windows automatically recognises the card reader and installs all the
necessary drivers. Additional drive letters are automatically assigned by Windows.
The switch (5) needs to be in the correct position for the computer/the operating
system to recognise the card reader; please note the next section.
Operation of the Switch, LED Functions
Use the switch (5) on the top side to toggle between card reader (1) and USB port (4).
• Switch position 1 (switch button is pushed down and slightly further inside the casing):
Card reader is activated, USB port is de-activated. The blue LED „Card/Access" is
glowing. An additional red LED glows, if a memory card is plugged in. The red LEC glows
during read/write access to an inserted memory card.
• Switch position 2 (switch button sticks out slightly further from the casing):
USB port is activated, card reader is de-activated. The green LED „USB2.0" glows.
In this operating mode, the USB port (4) is only looped into the USB connector of the
computer. You may here connect a USB stick, a web cam or any other USB device.
Reading/Writing to Memory Cards
A memory card is integrated into the system in same way as a conventional removable
media drive.
For instance, with Windows file manager you can read the data on the memory card (or
store data on the memory card), in the same way as you use the hard disk or a USB stick.
The red LED flashes during read/write access to the memory card.

Removing a Memory Card, unplugging a Card Reader
When read/write access is effected on the memory card, wait until this access is finished
(red LED stops flashing).
Carefully remove the memory card(s) from the card reader; the card reader can sub-
sequently be disconnected from the computer, if desired.
°
If the memory card is extracted during a read/write access, the data on the
memory card can be damaged; it is possible that the memory card requires sub-
sequent re-formatting.
Tips & Advice
• Ensure that the read-only access (slide switch on the memory card; if available) is in the
off position, when deleting from, or writing to, SD/MS memory cards.
• Use preferably a USB2.0 port for connecting the card reader.
The maximum data signalling rate when operated in USB1.1 is only 800kByte/s max.
With USB2.0, several Mbyte/s are possible, depending on the speed of your memory card!
Thus, for faster transfer always use a USB2.0 port for the card reader (a tremendous
saving of time during data transfer).
• The top side USB port may only be looped in to the PC-USB port in the appropriate switch
position.
• To connect a USB device with higher power consumption to the USB port, the card
reader needs to be connected either directly to a USB port of the computer or to a USB
hub with its own power supply unit.
Disposal
Dispose of an unserviceable product in line with the relevant statutory
