1 Directions for use Ubbink BioClear 20000 & 30000 three-chamber filter
Before operational startup of the BioClear pond filter, check once again, that:
1. All hose connections between pump and pond filter are laid and connected trouble-free
2. The inlet and outlet connections on the UV-C device (if existing) are tightened hand-tight
3. The drain cock on the filter casing for the dirty water drainage is closed
4. The filter media are placed trouble-free in the filter chambers
5. The directions for use for both the pump and the UV-C device (if existing), and the notes on safety included in these, have been read and considered
Following this, you can put the BioClear pond-filter system into operation in the following sequence:
1. Always switch on the pump first and check whether the water flows uniformly through the UV-C device (if existing) and the BioClear pond filter. Do not switch on the UV-C yet.
2. Check the BioClear pond filter system once again for leaking points. Due to manufacturing tolerance limits, it can occur in individual cases that the connection from hose and hose
nozzle drips. For this case we recommend to wrap the hose nozzle approx. 3-4 times with a standard Teflon tape.
3. After that, switch on the UV-C device (if existing) and make a visual check of the function of the UV-C lamp (viewing window or transparent hose nozzle).
It is important that your BioClear pond filter is constantly in operation without interruption. Only for maintenance and during the winter period should the system be switched off
completely and stored at a secure location.
If the BioClear pond filter should be taken out of operation, the UV-C device (if existing) is always to be switched off first. Only then switch off the pumps and drain off the water from
the filter chambers.
MAINTENANCE
Attention!! Before you carry out maintenance work on the pond filter, always switch off the UV-C device (if existing) first and the pumps after that; as appropriate drain off the pond
filter empty.
Dependent on the degree of contamination in the pond water, it can be necessary to remove the dirt deposited in the individual filter chambers. As a result of the special sludge-
collection area, no shutdown of the pond filter is necessary for this. The dirt can be drained off over the drain cock (C3). For this, switch off the UV-C device and the pump, pull the two
pipes (F) from the drain openings and open the outlet valve.
The filter mats (E), according to dirt accumulation, should be rinsed once monthly under tap water.
Problems
Preclude any clogging up of your BioClear pond filter or your pump through regular control-checks. If the desired filtering result should not occur in spite of regular cleaning, then this
can have the following causes:
• The performance of the BioClear pond filter employed by you is possibly not sufficient for the size of your pond and/or the fish stock in the pond is too high. In this case, the
employment of a larger pond filter and/or appropriate reduction of the fish stock is recommended.
• A pump is employed whose supply capacity exceeds the recommended standard values (see product specification). This can cause an exceeding of the flow-through rate of
your BioClear pond filter, i.e. the pond filter will "run over" and no further biological decomposition processes occur. For this case, a restriction of the pump performance is
recommended, e.g. through the installation of a ball cock and/or slide valve between pump and BioClear pond filter.
• The water values have increased or decreased to an undesired degree. Here a regular control-check with the Ubbink BioBalance Multi-Test can assist. Employed and dosed correctly,
Ubbink BioBalance pond care products can provide for optimum water values.
