4.2 Insurance

Depending on the policy, boat insurance may cover damage that occurs during the
use of the boat, in transportation or during dry-docking. Please check the scope of
your insurance policy when recovering your boat. Insurance also has an indirect
influence on boating safety: in the event of a serious accident, it allows you to
concentrate on saving lives rather than property. Detailed information on insurance

Safe operation of the boat requires prior training and practice. Boating manuals are
widely available, and boating associations and clubs arrange navigation courses.
Books and courses provide good preliminary skills, but mastery of boat handling,
navigation, mooring and anchoring requires many years of

The craft has been designed for conditions up to and including wind force 6 on the
Beaufort scale. This involves a wind force of approximately 14 metres per second
and a maximum significant wave height of two metres with a transient peak wave
height of four metres. These conditions may be experienced during voyages on large
lakes, estuaries and coastal waters in moderate weather conditions.

Characteristics and operation of the boat

The 'significant wave height' refers to an average height
based on the highest one-third of the wave profile,
corresponding roughly to the wave height observed by an
