Fire protection ventilation tiles BLS
INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
In order to ensure correct operation and for your
own safety, please read and observe the following
instructions carefully before proceeding.
RECEIPT
Please check delivery immediately on receipt for
accuracy and damage. If damaged, please notify the
carrier immediately. In case of delayed notification,
any possible claim may be void.
APPLICATION
Helios ventilation tiles BLS, which are used to close
overflow openings, allow the static ventilation of
closed rooms and chambers to be protected against
the spread of fire and smoke, such as e.g. installation
shafts, cable ducts, etc. They ensure a constant air
exchange between "closed" and adjoining rooms
and they prevent the spread of fire and smoke in
the event of a fire, however they do not prevent the
passage of smoke below the reaction temperature of
the ventilation tile.
m
They may only be installed in places where
there are no building regulation objections in this
respect, e.g.:
– in fire protection casings (switch cabinets), except
in stairways.
– in installation shafts, provided they are sealed off at
ceiling level on each floor, or
– in installation ducts, provided they are sealed off in
the area of the roomsealing components in each
section, but not in crucial corridors (emergency
escape routes).
– as inflow openings in crucial corridor walls (emer
gency escape routes), provided the openings are
in the lower wall area (max. 500 mm centrally
above top edge of the floor) (see Fig.1),
There is no general technical approval for these
products. Use in individual cases is possible on
the basis of a project-related design-type appro-
val. The decision on use will be taken by the buil-
ding supervisory authority in the building permit
process. The building supervisory authority must
also decide on the admissibility of use regarding
arrangement and size in the wall areas of neces-
sary corridors in such a permit process.
Installation in lightweight and solid partition walls
and brick shaft walls is possible. The installa-
tion of ventilation modules does not affect the
fire protection classification (F30 - F120) of the
component.
They can be installed in lightweight and solid par
tition walls and brick shaft walls. The installation of
ventilation modules does not affect the fire protection
classification (F30 F120) of the component.
DESCRIPTION
The ventilation tiles are made of organic intumescent
material, which foams up when heated, closes ope
nings, slits and gaps and thus prevents the passage
of fire and smoke above its reaction temperature.
PROPERTIES
Resistant to moisture, and largely resistant to oils,
petrol and weak acids.
Protects against fire attack; from both sides when
installed in wall.
SCOPE OF DELIVERY
Each Helios ventilation tile BLS is delivered with two
cover grilles (made of galvanised steel sheet).
MATERIAL
The Helios fire protection ventilation tiles BLS consist
of an insulating layerforming building material.

INSTALLATION

The intumescent material swells when activated
by fire and heat. No further sealing measures are
necessary for gaps or unevenness smaller than 2.5
mm allround.
If the gaps between the fire protection ventilation tile
and the opening soffit are larger than 2.5 mm, then
these gaps must be closed allround and completely
with noncombustible building materials, e.g. with
mortar made of mineral building materials or non
combustible mineral wool with a bulk density ≥ 80
3
kg/m
and a melting point over 1000 °C.
With regard to lightweight partition walls, the opening
in which the ventilation tile is to be installed, must
be framed allround with noncombustible calcium
silicate boards.
The following clear openings should be observed by
the customer for the simple insertion of the ventila
tion tiles!

The following illustrations must be used for installa
tion (Fig.13).
The steel sheet ventilation grilles must be placed on
one or both sides (see table "Type selection") after
the ventilation tile and firmly screwed to the compo
nent. The ventilation grille and ventilation tile passage
openings should be mounted in a linear course.
