A crank fan uses a spur gear system to spin
the blades around and make a breeze.
The faster the fan turns, the stronger the
breeze. Using a big gear to turn a small
gear makes it very easy to turn the blades
quickly. For one full turn of the big gear,
the small gear spins around many times.
How many times it spins depends on the
number of teeth both gears have (gear
ratio). The spur gears turn the blades much
faster than if you turned the blades directly
with a crank.
Un ventilateur à manivelle utilise un
système d'engrenages à roues droites pour
faire tourner les pales et créer un courant
d'air. Plus le ventilateur tourne vite, plus
le courant d'air est fort. Si l'on utilise un
grand engrenage pour faire tourner un petit
engrenage, il est très facile de faire tourner
rapidement les pales. A chaque fois que
le grand engrenage fait un tour complet,
le petit engrenage fait de nombreux tours
complets. Le nombre de tours dépend
du nombre de dents de chacun des deux
engrenages. Les engrenages à roues
droites font tourner les pales beaucoup
plus vite que si vous les faisiez tourner
directement avec une manivelle.
