let's explore your model!
Both the Crank Fan and Car Window
used a Spur Gear System. Now we will
learn about how a Crown Gear System
works!
1. Explore your model by turning the
crank and record your observations
to the questions below in a
notebook or on a piece of paper.
2. Where is the effort force applied?
Meaning, what do you do to make
the blender work?
3. What type of motion is the input movement?
4. Where does the output movement take place? What kind of
motion is it?
5. Compare the input and output movements? How are they the
same? How are they different?

6. Observe and describe the motion of each moving part. Is the
part rotating in a vertical plane or a horizontal plane?
7. Try to identify where the motion changes from moving in a
vertical (up and down) plane to moving in a horizontal (or flat)
plane.
8. Turn the crank fast & slow and observe how that affects the
speed of the parts.
9. Based on your observations, do you think this gear system
increases speed or changes the direction of motion?
